  • Hunt: Showdown is getting a major pricing change, with discounts of up to 30% for new players in select regions.
  • Crytek plans to upgrade the game’s technology with Cry Engine 5.11, boosting graphics and adding new features.
  • Current players won’t lose progress when upgrading to PS5 or Xbox Series X, as the game will carry over at no extra cost.

Developer Crytek announced that its cooperative-competitive shooter Hunt: Showdown is receiving a major change to its pricing. This comes ahead of a series of previously announced major changes, which will be implemented when Hunt: Showdown relaunches in August 2024.

A new era for Hunt: Showdown is coming soon, thanks to Crytek’s plan to convert the game’s underlying technology. The next version of Hunt: Showdown will use the latest version of Cry Engine, version 5.11, which brings with it a series of major improvements to graphical quality, loading times, and other new features. The game will even receive bespoke support for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S as part of the relaunch. One wrinkle in the change, though, is that Hunt: Showdown will stop supporting the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though Crytek reassured current players that their progress won’t be lost and will carry over when they choose to upgrade at no additional cost.

The new pricing will result in major discounts for new players, with some regions experiencing drops of as much as 30%. The price changes went live for PC as of July 11, 2024, and will launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on August 15, 2024.

Crytek Applies Major Discount to Hunt: Showdown Price on PC, Consoles to Follow

In its post, Crytek did not specify the exact discounted price point for Hunt: Showdown, as the price of games can vary based on region and platform. However, as the price changes are live on PC storefronts, one can get a general picture of the changes. On Steam in North America, the current price of Hunt: Showdown is set at $29.99 USD, down from $39.99 USD on June 27, a discount of about 25%. On the North American PSN store, Hunt: Showdown remains at $39.99 USD. As this is the pre-discount price, one of the hardest first-person shooter games on PS5 will become even easier to access when it relaunches in August.

The new Hunt: Showdown discounts will also apply to the game’s downloadable content add-ons. Since some Hunt: Showdown legendary hunters can be found in DLC packs, the discounts should also help new players catch up to the competition more easily.

Hunt: Showdown is already one of the more unique battle royale games to be found, thanks to its deliberate pacing, horror elements, and high skill ceiling. The changes Crytek has planned for the game promise to deepen the experience for new players as well as inject some new life into the game for veterans. The addition of new maps, hunters, and progression changes could herald a new surge of activity for the game in the near future.
