- State of Decay 3’s development seems to be progressing well, according to insider reports.
- Undead Labs has faced criticism for workplace culture, but recent updates suggest smoother development in recent years.
- A re-reveal of State of Decay 3 in the near future could boost morale for fans after years of little news.
Notable Xbox insider Jez Corden recently shared an encouraging update on the status of Undead Labs’ upcoming zombie survival game, State of Decay 3. If this latest information ends up being true, it seems like State of Decay 3 could end up being a very big hit for Microsoft when it releases in the near future.
In 2020, State of Decay 3 was revealed during the annual Xbox showcase with nothing more than a brief CGI trailer with zero gameplay. Since then, Undead Labs has shared next-to-no information on its upcoming game. The silence from the developer has, predictably, led to many fans wondering why State of Decay 3 is still nowhere to be found. Concern surrounding the game grew even further when a 2022 report from Kotaku accused Undead Labs of maintaining a sexist and toxic workplace culture. From that point onwards, however, there hasn’t been a whole lot of negative news or rumors regarding either the game or the studio, leading many to hope that State of Decay 3‘s development is progressing smoothly now. Fortunately, one insider’s recent claims seem to corroborate this train of thought.

State of Decay 3: 3 Features The Game Needs to ‘Exhume’ From Other Survival Games
Zombie-survival crafting series State of Decay is receiving a third entry, and there’s some features from other titles it can look to for improvement.
During the latest episode of the Xbox Two Podcast, reputable insider Jez Corden stated around the 3:19:20 timestamp that his sources told him the upcoming zombie game State of Decay 3 “is coming along very nicely.” He reiterated that in a subsequent statement, expressing that the title’s development is reportedly progressing “very, very well” and that the game is looking really good overall. As a big State of Decay fan himself, Jez Corden stated that he’s “eager” to hear such good things about the game, though he didn’t share any specific details that he may have received pertaining to the forthcoming title, if any.
This update comes shortly after Jez Corden himself teased back in April that State of Decay 3 could be at the Xbox showcase, alongside other titles like The Coalition’s Gears 6. If this does end up being true, this would fall in line with a statement Xbox executive Matt Booty made back in June 2023, when he claimed that both State of Decay 3 and Perfect Dark would get gameplay reveals within the next 18 months. Even if it doesn’t appear at this year’s Xbox summer showcase, chances are fans will likely see State of Decay 3 again sometime in 2024 unless plans end up changing.
An Impressive Showing of State of Decay 3 Could Rejuvenate the Xbox Fanbase
Morale has been low in the Xbox community recently, primarily due to Microsoft’s shock decision to shut down four of its first-party studios earlier this week, among other things. As such, an impressive re-reveal of a game like State of Decay 3 could be the shot in the arm Xbox needs to rejuvenate its fanbase. Hopefully, Microsoft will soon share more exciting information on both this title and other big Xbox games fans are still waiting for updates on.
