CI Games has signed a contract with Epic, ensuring the latter exclusive publishing rights to Lords of the Fallen sequel on PC. The developer is now working on a sequel to Lords of the Fallen, but this one will be skipping Steam at launch.

Lords of the Fallen is a reboot of the action-RPG from 2014. 2023’s Lords of the Fallen saw greater success and sold 1.3 million units in 3 months, helping increase CI Games’ fiscal year revenue by 400% year-over-year. Despite the success, CI Games was hit with more layoffs this year, letting go of around 30 employees as part of restructuring efforts initiated at the company in January 2024.

Even with this unfortunate situation, CI Games has already ensured that Lords of the Fallen will have a sequel, as indicated in a financial document. The document shows that CI Games signed a contract with Epic Games to ensure the exclusive distribution of the sequel to Lords of the Fallen for PC. Everything indicates that Lords of the Fallen 2, or perhaps Death of the Fallen, will be skipping Steam, at least on launch. Meanwhile, the right to distribute the IP on other platforms, such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, remains with CI Games.

Lords of the Fallen Sequel Will Be Epic Games Exclusive on PC

It’s not uncommon for Epic to make deals with developers to keep PC games exclusive to its ecosystem, especially when it’s the publisher, as with Alan Wake 2. Still, many Epic-exclusive games have ended up on Steam. One of the most recent examples is the Kingdom Hearts series, exclusive to Epic on PC since its release in 2021, but now the entire collection is on Steam. Final Fantasy 7 Remake also followed the trend.

CI Games has published 2023’s Lords of the Fallen on several platforms. In addition to the game being on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, Lords of the Fallen recently joined GeForce NOW’s cloud streaming service and Game Pass. This indicates that the publisher wants to distribute Lords of the Fallen on as many different platforms as possible. If the sequel follows suit, Lords of the Fallen 2 will indeed be a temporary Epic exclusive at launch and will make its way to other PC platforms down the road.
