PlayStation’s September 2024 State of Play unveiled several new projects and updates for existing ones, including LEGO Horizon Adventures. Here, Sony released a third pre-order trailer for the upcoming LEGO game in addition to an official release date of November 14 later this year. The trailer revealed that if people were to pre-order LEGO Horizon Adventures’ Digital Deluxe Edition, they’ll receive access to a Nora roller coaster customization, a Banuk Armor Outfit, a Shield-Weaver Outfit, and more. Besides new cosmetics items for players and Mother’s Heart, the new trailer seemingly confirmed a few new playable characters gamers can try out this holiday season.

LEGO Horizon Adventures May Be a Great Refresher Before Horizon 3

This holiday season, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch players can experience the Horizon world in a new light with LEGO Horizon Adventures. As the fourth entry in the Horizon series, this game is designed to appeal to both newcomers and long-time fans, with no prior knowledge of the previous titles required. However, the story is expected to retell the events of Horizon Zero Dawn in LEGO’s signature humorous style. With Horizon 3 still years away, LEGO Horizon Adventures offers a fun way to revisit key story moments from the original game.

LEGO Horizon Adventures’ Initial Playable Characters

When LEGO Horizon Adventures was first officially announced back in June, two trailers showcased how the LEGO version of the post-apocalyptic western United States would play and who would inhabit it. Horizon’s iconic animal-like machines returned in fun LEGO forms alongside some of Horizon‘s more notable human protagonists and side characters. Of course, Aloy returned in LEGO form to be the player’s primary avatar, but she won’t go alone on this escapade. She’ll be joined by her fellow Nora tribesman Varl as Horizon’s first co-op player, as LEGO Horizon Adventures will be the series’ first game to feature both local and online multiplayer.

Horizon Adventures’ initial trailers showed off more than just Aloy and Varl as playable options, however. Another member of the Nora tribe can join Aloy on her more playful LEGO take on Horizon Zero Dawn: Teersa. A High Matriarch of the Nora, Teersa was one of the few members of the tribe to be kind to Aloy from her childhood through adulthood. Alongside Teersa, players may also embody the comedic Oseram and member of the Carja Vanguard, Erend, in LEGO Horizon Adventures. Besides Varl, Erend is one of Aloy’s closest and most devoted friends.

More Playable Characters in LEGO Horizon Adventures

The latest Horizon Adventures trailer displayed several new cosmetic options for Aloy and her friends, including Ratchet and Sackboy Outfits, but it may have also confirmed a few new playable characters for the game. About halfway through the trailer, a clip depicts Aloy, Varl, Teersa, and Erend joined by Sylens in a huddle, presumably celebrating a newly crafted plan. Since four out of these five have already been confirmed to be playable characters, it would make sense for Sylens to join the roster as the fifth member of the group or at least one who gets unlocked later in the game.

Sylens seldom played a direct role with Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn, but Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo could easily rework parts of Zero Dawn’s story to allow players to embody Sylens for several occasions. Alongside Sylens, the trailer additionally showed off an “Alloy” Aloy alongside other Aloys dressed as Ratchet, Rivet, and Sackboy. This may indicate that gamers could embody multiple Aloy avatars at the same time as long as they’re wearing different outfits. Most of these outfits aren’t locked to certain characters as Erend could be seen donning the Ratchet Outfit briefly in the trailer.

Potential Playable Characters in LEGO Horizon Adventures

While LEGO Horizon Adventures won’t be developed by TT Games, LEGO’s prior mainstay game developer, it could still utilize some of those games’ traditional mechanics in how playable characters are found and unlocked. In those games, several enemies and NPCs in the main campaign would become playable if purchased or unlocked after beating certain levels. Guerrilla and Studio Gobo may implement a similar system to allow gamers to later play as characters such as Sun-King Avad, Helis, Rost, and Teb, all of which appear in Horizon Adventures’ various trailers. If LEGO Horizon Adventures does play somewhat similarly to TT’s LEGO games, potentially every character in the game could become playable eventually.
