Bingo is a famous game that can be played online or in physical venues, and involves the possibility of winning prizes. A game of bingo finishes when a player wins, a win meaning that a player matches his or her numbers with the ones casually drawn by a caller. The first person to achieve the feat of completing a pattern yells “Bingo!”. Their numbers are then double-checked and a prize, is awarded to the winning player. The patterns can be varied throughout a gaming session, which keeps players interested and engaged.

A Brief History of Bingo

The game’s history dates back to 1530, to a lottery in Italy named “Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia,” which is played every Saturday to this day. The game was introduced to neighbouring France in the late 1700s, where its name was changed to “Le Lotto“, a game played among the French higher-ups. A version of the game was also played by the Germans in the nineteenth century, even though it was a means to teach history and maths to children. It was, in its German version, basically a learning game. In the United States, the original game had a slightly different name, which was “beano”.

It was a game typical of country fairs where a dealer would choose numbered discs randomly from a cigar box, beans were used to mark the players’ cards, and “beano!” would be shouted if somebody won. New York toy salesman Edwin S. Lowe renamed the game bingo after he heard someone yell “bingo” as they were winning, instead of the proper “beano.” He hired Carl Leffler, a professor of maths at Columbia University, who was asked to increase the number of possible combinations in the bingo game. As soon as 1930, Leffler came up with 6,000 different bingo cards. These developments were meant to have fewer non-repeating number groups and fewer conflicts if more than one person got bingo at the same time.

Bingo’s Rise to Popularity

Bingo has been one of the most played game of luck throughout the country. Since it became famous in the 1960s it has been played by an ever-growing number of people in casinos and in general in bingo venues. In the last twenty years or so there has been a surge in popularity of online bingo sites, which is great as far as the games’ popularity goes, and presents a question: is it better to play bingo at home or to play bingo online?

Benefits of Playing Bingo Online

There are some definite advantages of playing bingo online: firstly there’s no need to even leave the house. Everybody can easily play from the comfort of their home. There’s no need to get all dressed up and go to a bingo venue. Good or bad weather, there will be a game on and with it the possibility to jump right on. This brings us to the second advantage of online bingo sites: gaming on the go.

With the advancement of mobile technology, and with ever more functional mobile phones and tablets, it is now also possible to play your games whilst on the move. A lot of the most famous branded providers also have special apps on their websites as well, which makes it even easier because games take place 24/7. There is a new game every few minutes, and the players can choose which ones they would like to play. Early morning or late night, there will be a game taking place.

Why Some Still Prefer Bingo Halls

Going out to a bingo hall lets you see your friends in the flesh and catch up. Not many of your friends are bingo players? No problem! The bingo halls still have that social and welcoming feeling they used to have in the 60s when it all started, and you may be able to make friends right from the first time you go there. Of course, playing online you can still use the chat function to interact with fellow players.

Conclusion

Whether you prefer to stay home or to play at bingo halls, if you like bingo you should be happy: there are a lot of options for you to find the perfectly tailored version of the game.
