Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter test screening reactions may surprise fans after Sony’s critically panned Spider-Man Universe films like Venom and Morbius.

Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter are a part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which currently consists of Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbious. Although both Venom films have been successful at the box office, they were critically panned. Many people consider Sony’s live-action Spider-Verse films the worst comic book movies have to offer, so it would be surprising if they turned the quality of their films around.

However, that may happen if a recent scoop from Daniel Richtman is accurate. Richtman claims Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter were “decent and tested well.” Richtman continued, “But obviously we can’t be sure unless the movie’s out and we see for ourselves.” He also said that he thinks the trailer for Madame Web “actually looks good.” Some fans have disagreed with that last point, but many others truly like the trailer and are excited to see the movie.

This news may surprise many fans, but it shouldn’t be unexpected. While Sony’s Venom movies were not good, they weren’t that bad, just underwhelming. On the other hand, Morbius was terrible and flopped in theaters twice, causing fans to seriously doubt the quality of any live-action movie that Sony puts out related to Spider-Man. However, Kraven is much more well-known to fans than Morbius, and lead star Aaron Taylor Johnson is an amazing actor. Additionally, Kraven the Hunter‘s R-rating means the movie won’t hold back.

Madame Web also has a talented cast with Dakota Johnson as the title character, also known as Cassandra Webb, Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter, Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon, Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin, Tahar Rahim as Ezekiel Sims, and Adam Scott and Emma Roberts in unconfirmed roles. One of the storylines that Sony does well with is the Spider-Verse, and based on the trailer, Madame Web seems to be doing that.

Of course, fans are right to be apprehensive after Sony’s past failures. However, fans should wait for Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter to release to pass judgment. Sony could surprise a few fans and provide some decent films.

Madame Web is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 14, 2024.
