A Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 player is pointing out a funny detail they saw at one point during an important scene in the game, just before the climax. Spider-Man 2 was one of this year’s most anticipated titles for gamers and became a candidate for The Game Awards’ Game of the Year 2023 despite being out for just over a month. The category certainly has some strong contenders, such as Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3. But Spider-Man 2 has earned its nomination for being a game with an impressive and fun traversal and combat system and an enthralling narrative that draws players in.

Spider-Man 2 is one of this year’s titles with a shorter playtime, so fans have been immersing themselves in everything the title has to offer. For instance, some keen-eyed fans have discovered a secret room that points to future DLC featuring Daredevil, while others have found hilarious glitches. On the other hand, some fans have been taking a closer look at the story, and while the narrative is enjoyable, there are some potentially glaring plot holes below the surface.

Spider-Man 2: One of Kraven’s Murders Makes No Sense

Kraven targets many of New York’s strongest villains during his hunt in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but one specific kill feels out of place in the game.

Going by the handle OnToNextStage, one Redditor posted a short video questioning an aspect of an important cutscene during one of Spider-Man 2’s best arcs. The moment under the microscope is when a fridge knocks Peter down for a moment just after MJ tries to protect him from a Venom-powered Harry. Fans in the thread are wondering how a kitchen appliance could take out the friendly neighborhood web crawler when he constantly fights superpowered villains and even catches cars. Another sticking point for fans during this scene is MJ reacting faster than Peter to protect him, which results in the collision.

Some fans in the thread have rebutted that this scene is not a plot hole but instead features good characterization, as Peter and MJ have motivations for their actions. One fan pointed out that MJ and Peter are in love, so it is only natural for her to want to protect him, given only a split second to make a decision. Another user in the thread added that since MJ knew that Venom wanted to assimilate Peter after earlier events in Spider-Man 2, she moved to protect the only person who would have a chance against the Symbiote. As for Peter’s delayed reaction and subsequent injury, some fans in the thread theorized that he could simply be shocked at seeing his best friend embrace Venom.

Another point to consider, according to another fan, is that because it is a comic book game, the superhero will only be as strong or weak as they need to be in that moment to move along the plot, disregarding experience. Whether a plot hole or a way to move the plot along, it is certain that the fans are an observant community noticing little things like police officers ignoring criminals in Spider-Man 2, leaving the pair of heroes to pick up the slack.

With no word on DLC from Insomniac, some fans have turned their attention to what the upcoming New Game+ looks like for Spider-Man 2. While it may be too early for a DLC announcement, December 7 may be an important date for Spider-Man 2 fans, as the game could possibly win a number of awards at The Game Awards.
