MGS Delta: Release Date Announcement Coming Soon, Sony Says
Konami’s radio silence on this front may now finally be nearing its end, at least according to some newly shared information from Sony. Namely, a hands-on preview of the game that recently went live on the PlayStation Blog ends with a claim that the MGS Delta: Snake Eater “release date [is] to be revealed later this year.” The fact that this encouraging update is coming from Sony rather than Konami is a bit unusual, but not entirely unprecedented. After all, the PlayStation maker was also the one who narrowed down the MGS Delta: Snake Eater release window to 2024, which happened back in January.
If its release date is indeed going to be revealed in the next four months, then MGS Delta: Snake Eater could still hit its previously stated launch window. As for when the announcement could happen, the next obvious opportunity for it is Tokyo Game Show 2024, which Konami has already confirmed to be attending. While TGS 2024 is scheduled to start on September 26, its exhibitors historically hold press conferences detailing their trade show lineups a day ahead of the convention itself.
Of course, since MGS Delta: Snake Eater was announced during the latest PlayStation Showcase, there’s always a chance for its release date to also be revealed at one such event. But seeing how Sony already confirmed plans to attend the 2024 edition of Tokyo Game Show, it is unlikely that the company is planning a dedicated product showcase before the convention. There are also no guarantees that something of the sort will happen immediately afterward, as Sony doesn’t often hold such events in Q4. Its latest fourth-quarter livestream happened back in October 2021 in the form of a 22-minute State of Play.
Apart from the PlayStation 5, MGS Delta: Snake Eater will also be a day-one release for the Xbox Series X/S and PC. Much like most contemporary AAA titles, the game will receive a physical release on consoles, while its PC version will be digital-only. The latter has so far only been confirmed to be coming to Steam. As for what’s next for the franchise, Konami recently said it is open to remaking more Metal Gear games after MGS Delta hits the market.
