Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat 1 is adding pre-fight intro dialogues to Towers and online Invasion modes, fulfilling a long-standing request from players.
  • The pre-fight banter in Mortal Kombat 1 adds entertainment and helps establish relationships between characters, even offering humorous explanations for mirror matches.
  • The upcoming update will also include the “Season of Ice” campaign, new characters, and new interactions with mini-bosses and Titans, expanding Mortal Kombat 1’s lore.

Mortal Kombat 1 is finally making a long-requested change in its next update by adding pre-fight intro dialogues to the game’s Towers and online Invasion modes. NetherRealm released the latest Mortal Kombat game back in September, with Mortal Kombat 1 getting mainly positive reviews thanks to its refined gameplay and rebooted storyline that marks the start of a brand-new chapter in the long-running franchise’s continuity.

One of the most entertaining aspects of Mortal Kombat 1’s brutal one-on-one battles is the pre-fight banter that participants engage in, which has been a recurring stable in the MK series since 2015’s Mortal Kombat X. Whether it’s vicious taunts between mortal enemies or friendly conversations among allies, these intros help establish the relationships within Mortal Kombat 1’s cast of warriors in ways that the main campaign might miss out on, and in some cases can even provide humorous explanations for things like Mortal Kombat 1’s mirror matches.

Mortal Kombat 1 Dev Gives Update on Crossplay Plans

The Mortal Kombat 1 developers at NetherRealm Studios give fans an update about the studio’s plans for crossplay and other online features.

However, Mortal Kombat 1’s pre-match intro conversations have only been available in the game’s multiplayer matches and offline Versus mode, much to the dismay of players who wish to hear them in other modes like Towers and Invasions. This is changing in Mortal Kombat 1’s newest update, as confirmed by NetherRealm during a Kombat Kast livestream earlier this week. One of the many points raised in the video is the news that pre-fight intros are being added to the classic Towers mode, as well as the newest Invasions season through conversations with “mini-bosses, major bosses, and Titan fights.”

Like the previous two Mortal Kombat 1 Invasions Seasons, the upcoming “Season of Ice” campaign will feature a storyline centered around an alternate timeline version of a certain character – which in this case will be the infamous cryomancer Sub-Zero. Mortal Kombat 1 has also added its second DLC character in Quan Chi, the sinister necromancer who previously played a large supporting role in MK 1’s single-player story before becoming a full-fledged playable fighter. Fittingly enough, a brief teaser for Quan Chi’s character DLC announcement featured a pre-fight intro between him and Shang Tsung that cleverly referenced their past alliances in previous Mortal Kombat games.

Now players will get to hear this and other Mortal Kombat 1 intros in modes outside of Versus and online match-ups thanks to the game’s latest update, which also includes the latest “Season of Ice” Invasions campaign and new characters Quan Chi and Khamleon. Players can also look forward to new interactions with “Season of Ice’s” new mini-bosses and Titans, which will likely add some interesting new wrinkles to Mortal Kombat 1’s lore.
