Highlights

  • The next Pokemon Presents event has been announced for February 27.
  • The broadcast will air at 6am PT.
  • Fans are expecting the long-rumored remakes of Pokemon Black and White to headline the event.

The next Pokemon Presents livestream has been officially announced for February 27, coinciding with the anniversary of the first entry in the Pokemon franchise. This turn of events has been widely expected by the fandom, not least because 2024 will mark the fourth consecutive year a broadcast of this sort has occurred on Pokemon Day.

Pokemon Day has been officially celebrated annually since the series marked its 20th anniversary in 2016. Five of the first seven of those celebrations included a dedicated Pokemon Presents event, a livestream focused on the immediate future of the franchise. Since 2021, The Pokemon Company has been holding two Pokemon Presents broadcasts annually: one on Pokemon Day, and another one in August.

Based on the runtimes of past such broadcasts, the upcoming livestream will likely be between 15 and 20 minutes in length.

Pokemon Black and White Remakes May Be Announced at the Next Pokemon Presents Event

As for the event’s agenda, the current expectation among the fandom is that the long-awaited remakes of Pokemon Black and White will be among the highlights of the broadcast. Game Freak’s last pair of remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, were also unveiled during a Pokemon Presents livestream in late February 2021 before debuting on the Switch nine months later. Since new mainline entries in the franchise aren’t expected to hit the market before late 2025, they are unlikely to be mentioned at the event, making the fifth-generation remakes the likeliest candidates for the next Pokemon Presents headliners.

Looking at the bigger picture, the February 27 event will possibly reveal Game Freak’s last Switch games. Recent reports indicate that Nintendo’s next console will hit the market in early 2025, with some analysts hence expecting 2024 to be the year of Switch remakes, speculating that the gaming giant will be saving its biggest potential blockbusters for the next system. Regardless of whether that forecast pans out, there is little doubt that Game Freak will conform to Nintendo’s overarching product strategy for this year, seeing how it’s a second-party developer as far as Pokemon RPGs are concerned.

Precedent suggests The Pokemon Company may also announce a limited-time Pokemon Day event in Scarlet and Violet during the broadcast. Some Pokemon GO news is also on the cards, as are announcements relating to the Pokémon Masters EX mobile game.
