No Man’s Sky is an open-world space exploration game where players can discover new planets, animals, and valuable resources. While there isn’t a strict main storyline, players will progress in the game by finding new areas and upgrading their suits, weapons, or ships.
There are also missions and quest lines in No Man’s Sky that can be completed for money and notoriety. It takes real-life hours to travel around in space without using fast travel portals. So, saving the game is important to ensure players don’t have to redo things or lose their place in the ever-expanding universe. Saving from the options menu isn’t an option, but players can use this guide to learn how.
How to Save in No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky is an enormous game that almost feels never-ending with how far players can explore. The main objective is to reach the center of the universe, but there are hours of content available to occupy players before that.
Between dealing with space pirates and documenting everything there is to find on uncharted planets, players must make sure they are saving. Old saves can be accessed from the start menu, but players cannot create more save files.
There are three options for saving the game in No Man’s Sky. The first and easiest method is to use the auto-save feature that comes with their ship. Anytime players exit their ship, the game saves. This is true for exiting on planets, space stations, and the Anomaly.
Players won’t always have their spaceship near them if they are traveling by foot on planets. If so, they will want to save using a portable Save Beacon. Portable Save Beacons are crafted using Metal Plating and Di-Hydrogen Jelly. After placing one and using it, players can pick it up and take it wherever they go.
Another option is to find Beacons on planetary structures, such as Resource Depots, Outposts, and abandoned facilities. Beacons shoot out signals, so most buildings aside from monoliths and ancient structures have one next to them. If players activate a Beacon, it triggers an auto-save to take place.
After saving, players can access all of their saved data when they first boot up the game and from the start menu. They can also have multiple save files at one time for different playthroughs.
