Looking for the Old Cottage Key to unlock the wooden hut in No Rest for the Wicked? Here’s where to find it.
Many points of interest in No Rest for the Wicked are locked behind barred doors or grates that cannot be opened without the right key in hand. Finding these keys is typically a matter of progressing the main story or a side quest enough to get access to it naturally — or finding it via exploration. The tricky part is that the game doesn’t tell players which is which.
The Old Cottage is one of the very first locked locations players will encounter in the game. Found during the initial trek past Sacrament via the Nameless Pass, a wooden door bars the way to a dilapidated shack, and when you interact with it, it demands an Old Cottage Key. Here is where to find this key to open the door and get the rewards inside.

Where To Find Old Cottage Key In No Rest For The Wicked
The Old Cottage Key can be found near the locked door.
- Climb the wooden staircase right next to the locked door to reach the second floor.
- Jump across the two ledges to the left by using the wooden beam to reach the first platform, and then hold the sprint button to jump across the chasm to the other side.
- Defeat the Risen, barring the way ahead to reach the top of the cliff.
- Use the wooden bridge to find a fire pit up top.
- Defeat the three enemy soldiers and go down the slope opposite the fire pit (cooking station).
- Turn right to find the ledge with a ladder that can be dropped down.
- Pick up the blue item on the ground — this is the Old Cottage Key.
- Return to the Old Cottage, either by using the ladder or returning the way you came.
- Interact with the locked door to use the Old Cottage Key.
Inside, you will find an unopened chest with treasure inside. The loot inside is randomized, and players can get anything from Scrap Bombs to weapon upgrade materials. The chest is the only item of interest in the cottage; there is nothing else of value.
Chests in No Rest for the Wicked respawn after a set period of time has passed. Checking back in areas that haven’t been visited in a while is an easy way to get more items.
