Players who are into horror, and would like to try something with a very Lovecraftian flavor, could try out Once Human. This is a horror survival game that uses survival gameplay as a backbone, whilst projecting an intriguing story arc. Although it is free-to-play, there is a cash shop that sells cosmetic items, and an optional monthly battle pass available as well.

Most players in this survival FPS will use a pistol as a secondary weapon, a sidearm if you will. Quickly switching to their pistol to finish off enemies when their main weapon comes up empty, rather than waiting to reload it. However, it is entirely viable to use a pistol as a primary weapon as well, with some practice.

5 G17 – Dusty

Shrapnel Pistol

  • 55% chance to trigger shrapnel when hitting a weak spot.
  • When triggered, shrapnel no longer ignores parts already hit.

The G17 – Dusty is the perfect sidearm for players who already run a shrapnel build for their main weapon. Considering the blueprint for this pistol can be looted from mystical crates in the Iron River region of the open-world map, it is pretty easy to acquire.

In the early to mid-levels of the game, this pistol is one of the best weapons when, using a KAM assault rifle with the shrapnel effect, combined with this weapon as a sidearm, is going to give any player the firepower they need to get to the endgame.

The R500 – Hammerhead Shark is the perfect sidearm partner for the SOCR Outsider assault rifle, as both of them are designed to exploit the power surge combat mechanic in Once Human. As an epic weapon, it should be a little easier to pull this blueprint from the Wish Machine than the legendary pistols later on this list.

Overall, if the player is willing to invest blueprint fragments to upgrade the R500 – Hammerhead Shark blueprint, it could become their forever sidearm, although it could do with a couple more rounds in the drum.

For Pistoleers

• How to get: Blueprint can be won from the Wish Machine.
• Specials:
  • 60% chance to trigger bull’s eye when hitting a target.
  • There is an 80% chance to spread bull’s eye to 1 other enemy within a 15-meter radius. If there are no enemies to spread to, weapon damage is +25% for 10 seconds.
  • When hitting a weak spot on a marked enemy, attack +3%, can stack up to 3 times for 10 seconds.

The DE.50 – Wildfire is very obviously intended to be used as a primary weapon, rather than a backup sidearm. This is very much a pistoleer’s pistol, designed to be used accurately to boost damage.

Taking down single enemies is where this pistol shines, so it is great for boss fights. It’s only when the player is fighting an enemy with no other enemies within 15 meters of their target that this pistol shines. Overall, a difficult weapon to master, that is intended to be used with a particular playing style, but worth making the effort to learn how to use.

A Precise Pistol

  • Hits grant a 36% to trigger fast gunner, chance doubles on weak spot hit.
  • When fast gunner is triggered, 1 bullet is automatically reloaded.
  • Each shot has a 40% chance of consuming additional bullets.

The R500 Memento serves as an excellent sidearm in Once Human. For players who prefer to carry a pistol to quickly eliminate enemies rather than waiting to reload their primary weapon, this gun offers additional utility.

The DE.50 Jaws is an interesting weapon, being a pistol that uses the unstable bomber combat mechanic. This makes it a perfect sidearm for a player who is running an unstable bomber build for their main weapon.

Unfortunately, the fact that the blueprint for this weapon is unlocked via the Wish Machine, means that only the luckiest of players will gain access to it within the first season of Once Human. But overall, this is a great sidearm for PvE combat gameplay.
