One Piece is one of the longest running manga to continually maintain its fanbase and grow in popularity. This fact may lead people to forget that the length of time within the main storyline has only been a little over a couple of years. Nonetheless, people tend to underestimate how significant changes can happen within that time.

These pirates in the One Piece anime are notable not only for their personal exploits but also for their significant influence on other pirates.

Notably, a small handful of characters have been born since around the time the series properly started, with all of them, consequently, also being only a couple of years old. Here are some characters who did not exist roughly before the time Luffy began his journey as a pirate.

5 Nanday

Hailing From Cactus Island

Nandy being juggled on bats by his father while his mother has a drink

  • Debut: Chapter 632 Cover Story (Manga), One Piece Stampede as a Background Character (Anime)
  • Parent(s): Mr. 9 (Father), Miss Monday (Mother)

Nanday is the son of two former frontier agents under Baroque Works, namely Miss Monday and Mr. 9. These two are notable for betraying their organization, for the sake of protecting their assigned partners, Nefertari Vivi and Igaram. The latter pair infiltrated the organization for the sake of Alabasta. Nevertheless, their partners were steadfast in protecting them from Miss Valentine and Mr. 5, who had been notified of the betrayal. For their trouble, 9 and Monday were both brutally beaten, with Mr. 9 being knocked into a river and Miss Monday being crushed underground. For a while it was unclear whether or not they actually survived.

A lot of characters in the series first appeared in this one-panel format.

Eventually, they were both revealed to have survived the encounter, via a cover story. They are also revealed to have become a couple with a baby named Nanday in said cover. His name is both a mixture of his parents’ codenames, with them being two of the only major agent characters without known given names. Mr. 9 is seen playing with the child, while his wife reads about the exploits of the Straw Hats in a newspaper.

4 Satellites

Vegapunk’s Aspects Given Form

Official color spread of Chapter 1101, featuring Doctor Vegapunk and his six satellites.

  • Debut: Chapter 1061(Manga); Episode 1090 (Anime)
  • Parent(s): Dr. Vegapunk (“Stella” and Creator)

Dr. Vegapunk was a prolific scientist who is noted for his innovative technology, which led to him being co-opted by the marines. He was notably responsible for the creation of the Pacifista and friends with the original Pacifista, Bartholomew Kuma. He had recently split his being into various constructs known as Satellites, through currently unknown means. Although the Satellites’ biological ages range from 16 to 30, they are confirmed to be only 2 years old in an expansion of Vivre Card – One Piece Visual Dictionary. The Satellites were “born” roughly around the time the Straw Hat Pirates docked in Water 7. These six beings embody aspects of Dr. Vegapunk, the innovative scientist who is responsible for developing weapons for the World Government. These aspects of himself are allowed to operate in such a way that lets him perform more efficiently when it comes to researching.

Shaka is Vegapunk’s aspect of “good”, notable for his fearlessness and noble nature. Lilith is Vegapunk’s aspect of “evil”, known for being impulsive and holding nothing back against those she views as enemies. Edison is Vegapunk’s aspect of “thinking”, who continually comes up with new ideas and experiments to conduct. Pythagoras is Vegapunk’s aspect of “wisdom”, known for rational thought and recording data. Atlas is Vegapunk’s aspect of “violence”, who is responsible for relieving the scientist’s stress. York is Vegapunk’s aspect of “greed”, which takes care of the need to eat, rest, and perform bodily functions, so the others can work on their projects unhindered.

York betrayed her fellow Satellites and their creator to become a World Noble. She is presently acting as the subordinate to the newest of the Five Elders, Figarland Garling. Lilith is currently traveling with the Straw Hat Pirates, while the remaining Satellites were destroyed, but reformed into one oddly-proportioned body.

3 Capone Pez

The Child of Pirates

One Piece Capone Bege and Pez

  • Debut: Chapter 834 (Manga); Episode 795 (Anime)
  • Parent(s): Capone Bege (Father), Charlotte Chiffon (Mother)

On both sides of his family, Capone Pez is related to impressive pirates. His father is Capone Bege, one of the Supernovas, who took to the high seas after being a gangster proved not enough of a challenge. His mother is Charlotte Chiffon, one of many members of the infamous Big Mom Pirates, who previously held the distinction of being the Minister of Puff, prior to exiting Totto Land. Pez’s grandmother is Charlotte Linlin, the captain of the Big Mom Pirates, previously considered to be one of the most threatening figures to the World Government, which led to her holding the rank of “Emperor.”

These characters should probably get a power-up before the story ends.

Even as a baby, Pez bears great physical resemblance to both of his parents. He has his father’s stubble, despite being a baby, and also has a cigar-shaped binky. His hair, on the other hand, is colored pink, as is the case for his mother and both of her parents. Despite being the product of an arranged marriage, his parents love him and each other very much. Pez also has an affection for family, being able to recognize Pound, the estranged ex-husband of Linlin, as his grandfather, upon seeing him for the first time. He was also seen happily participating in the wedding of his aunt Lola, and uncle Gotti, who is now Bege’s brother-in-law, in addition to being his subordinate.

2 Seraphim

The New Warlords

The four Seraphs currently named; S-Shark, S-Bear, S-Hawk, and S-Snake

  • Debut: Chapter 1059 (Manga), Episode 1087 (Anime)
  • Parent(s): Dr. Vegapunk (Creator), Alber (Genetic Ancestor), Seven Warlords of the Sea (Genetic Ancestors to their Respective Counterparts)

“Born” roughly around the same time as the Satellites (as confirmed in Vivre Card entries), the Seraphim at least look closer to their age, but are still biologically a bit older than their actual age of 2. They are each modeled after, and utilize DNA from the Seven Warlords of the Sea (specifically the lineup when Kuma joined). Additionally, they also derive some of their DNA from Alber, better known as King, a Lunarian who is one of the top officers of the Beasts Pirates.

They are a new model of Pacifista, meant to replace the Warlords after the World Government abolished the system. Despite being children, they are shown to be strong enough to counter Emperors, effectively sliding into the niche their parents/predecessors left behind. To copy their additional powers, each seraph has green blood, which allows them to use an artificial Paramecia Devil Fruit, gaining its powers but also a weakness to water.

Each seraph is codenamed with the letter S, followed by a designated animal related to their counterpart. Their partially biological nature means they can age (possibly growing even more powerful in the process) and are capable of some level of independent thought and emotion, despite a level of control being exercised over them.

1 Makino’s Child

From Foosha Village

Makino's child being held by their mother

  • Debut: Chapter 614 (Manga); Episode 878 (Anime)
  • Parent(s): Makino (Mother), Unknown Father

Makino is a bar owner and bartender from Foosha Village, who knew Luffy when he was a small child. She was also acquainted with the Red Hair Pirates, who were stationed in the village at the time. Although not a particularly relevant character to the primary story, she is one of many seen in the prologue, and is always interested in Luffy’s exploits when they become news.

At the age of 31, she is now a mother to an infant of unclear name, gender, and father. Oda identified the baby’s father as “probably that person,” when asked about his identity. Considering the semi-serious nature of SBS and Makino’s own unimportance, this is the best answer we’ll get. Regardless of unclear fatherhood, Makino has rarely been seen without her infant since their first appearance.
