One Piece: Will Vegapunk Die On Egghead?

One Piece is currently in the very climax of the Egghead Island arc, and it appears that this story segment doesn’t have long left now, with around 10-15 or so chapters remaining. One Piece chapter 1108 was a massive one, and it advanced the plot and more direct ways, especially when it came to the character of Dr Vegapunk.

Fans saw him get injured by Saturn previously, who utilized the power of his Devil Fruit to stab him right through the chest. In One Piece chapter 1108, he met an even worse fate, as Kizaru stabbed him in his gut, and it appears that now, Vegapunk is on his last legs. There is a huge possibility of Vegapunk actually dying in this arc, and One Piece chapter 1108 has now set the stage for this massive event to finally happen.

Vegapunk’s Sealed Fate

Vegapunk’s fate was sealed right from the get-go in the Egghead Island arc. In fact, when fans were introduced to Vegapunk through his satellites, one of them, Shaka, who is known to be the logic of Vegapunk, addressed Dragon directly in a conversation and told him that he doesn’t think that he has long left to live. This was quite a clear indication of the fact that Vegapunk could end up dying and many fans would consider it a buildup to what is now culminating in the Egghead Island arc.

Although this was just a feeling based on the facts of the situation, he did not know the Straw Hat Pirates would be there, but it still seems like it could potentially happen. Vegapunk receiving help from the Straw Hat Pirates was a boon for him, however, even now, it appears that he could still end up dying. That said, when fans saw seven bodies of Vegapunk, the figure was too large for him to continue that way. At least, if he was supposed to travel with the Straw Hat Pirates, ideally, the fans would see the crew with fewer passengers on board.

For instance, after the timeskip, Momonosuke, Kin’emon, Law, and Momo have joined the crew on the Sunny, however, adding too many people on board would make it incredibly difficult for Oda to continually deliver exposition to these characters. In the case of Vegapunk, there are seven bodies, and on top of that, Jewelry Bonney, and potentially even Kuma would be with the pirate crew. The numbers are simply too great for all of them to travel on the Sunny, and as a result, some of them would have to be cut down, of course, all the while serving the narrative purposes in the Egghead Island arc.

Fans have seen many members of the satellites fall. For instance, Shaka was shot right through the head and he died. Pythagoras was killed as well. York turned out to be a traitor and would certainly not travel with the Straw Hats unless she was a hostage. Clearly, Oda intended for the numbers to drop severely, and that means more bodies of Dr. Vegapunk falling as the arc continues.

Vegapunk’s Injuries

When it comes to the main body of Vegapunk, also known as Stella, the vast majority of the fans expected him to survive on this island. This is simply down to the fact that Vegapunk still has genius ideas that he wants to accomplish, and if he is dead, then a lot of plot points in One Piece will remain hanging forever, such as his transmission to the entire world, or his dreams of infinite energy for the entire world, or an interconnected system. These are important plot points that have been established and can be pulled off only by him alone. If Vegapunk is not there, these goals will not be fulfilled, and as a result, fans fully expect him to survive in some way or form.

That said, Vegapunk certainly did receive some very serious injuries as the Egghead Island Arc continued. Vegapunk was stabbed right through the chest by Saint Saturn on the Fabriophase of Egghead Island, when he went down to rescue Bonney. Later down the line, Kizaru stabbed him with his light sword right through the gut. It is clear that an old man such as him cannot handle so much damage.

Even though Vegapunk is alive right now, and is being transported by Sanji, he is losing his life with each passing second, and that means he might end up dying here. In One Piece chapter 1108, quite a lot of focus was thrown on Vegapunk’s heartbeat. Towards the end of the chapter, his heart rate was dropping and it appears as if he’s on the way to finally perish.

Vegapunk’s Last Announcement

Towards the end of One Piece chapter 1108, Vegapunk did something quite unexpected. It looks like he always had a contingency plan in case he were to die. As Vegapunk started losing his life, a message started being broadcasted. This message seems to be addressed to the entire world, and it appears that it will be transmitted all over the world of One Piece. In this message, Vegapunk will likely reveal the truth about the world, and potentially even expose the World Government for what they truly are, raising awareness and, at the same time, preparing the world for what is to come as the arc continues.

This looks like something that Vegapunk would only do when he knows that he will surely end up dying. Furthermore, his dropping heart rate is a clear indication of the fact that he might actually end up falling in the Egghead Island arc, despite all the valiant efforts of the Straw Hat Pirates in trying to protect him. What’s going to be left behind is his legacy, which will be this message that will be broadcasted all over the world, the future that he entrusted to Bonney, and of course, a newly kindled hope that he has now placed in Luffy. Vegapunk proved to be quite a compelling character and it appears that his death is on the cards. However, Vegapunk’s death might not come as fans would have expected it.

The Fate Of The Genius Scientist – Vegapunk

The genius scientist, Vegapunk, would most certainly face dire consequences for what he has done. Fans expect him to fall in the Egghead Island Arc’s next chapter, and it is clearly a big possibility. Vegapunk might end up dying in One Piece chapter 1109, and this event could go in two directions. Either Oda can cut down on the other satellites, and let Stella live, which would be a massive loss for Vegapunk, as he would not only lose his clones, but also the entire research that he conducted for years.

Or, Oda can simply kill Stella, and in that case, his legacy can live through characters, such as Lilith and Edison. Of course, these numbers might still be too great and Oda might cut down on them, with Lilith being the most likely survivor of the lot. Dr Vegapunk will live, no matter what. Be it to Stella, who, in this case, will barely be alive and saved somehow, or to Lilith, who is currently on the way to escape from Egghead Island along with the Straw Hat Pirates. One way or another, Vegapunk’s bodies will fall, and they will only be one of a few more that will manage to escape.
