Highlights

  • Persona 5 Tactica’s Velvet Room in the game introduces Weapon Crafting, allowing players to forge their Personas into powerful guns with unique abilities.
  • Weapon Fusion is unlocked after reaching a certain point in the game, and it had been previously featured in Persona 3 FES.
  • The mechanic of Weapon Crafting could potentially inspire ideas for Persona 6, with the possibility of expanding it to include armor fusion and high-powered weapons made by specific Personas.

One aspect of the Velvet Room in Persona 5 Tactica could point towards a substantial addition to Persona 6 in the future. Persona 5 Tactica does do a fair amount of things differently than the mainline series, thanks to the genre shift of the spin-off. However, just because it isn’t a mainline entry in the Persona series doesn’t mean that Persona 5 Tactica exists in a vacuum. It can still act as an inspiration for certain parts of the series’ future. This is especially true when it comes to some of the better ideas displayed in the game.

For all of the new twists featured in Persona 5 Tactica, one franchise constant remains in the form of the Velvet Room. An extradimensional space that changes its form with every game, the Velvet Room is a mysterious location where the protagonist can manage their Personas. Typically, these duties include:

  • Registering Personas in the Compendium
  • Summoning registered Personas
  • Fusing existing Personas into new, stronger Personas

Once again, the Velvet Room of Persona 5 Tactica is available to handle these vital duties for the player. Persona 5 Tactica‘s incarnation is a special case though, since it also includes some functions that were not in Persona 5.

Persona 5 Tactica has a very different approach to damage types from most other Persona games, which could be worth something to Persona 6.

Persona 5 Tactica’s Weapon Fusion Could Fit Well Into Persona 6

In addition to the usual, Persona 5 Tactica‘s features include a new resource in the Velvet Room: Weapon Crafting. With Weapon Crafting, the player can take one of their Personas and forge it into a new gun. The cost of forging a weapon is high, requiring two Personas of a similar affinity. However, the end result is a weapon with respectable power. It can be a gamble, especially since those Personas could have been fused into a higher-level Persona instead. The strength of the guns combined with the abilities that the Personas themselves grant them makes them a valid investment for the player, though.

Weapon Fusion is useful in Persona 5 Tactica, but it isn’t available from the start. Players will have to reach the Yoshiki Kingdom and beat Main Mission 26 in order to unlock it.

Weapon Crafting has precedent thanks to Persona 3‘s remake, Persona 3 FES. In that game, players could collect Nihil weapons and fuse Personas into them to create empowered weapons with built-in abilities. The added effects depended on the Personas, with a few unique options. Most notably, a select few high-powered Personas such as Asura and Lucifer could be used to create remarkably powerful weapons for various types, enabling the player to potentially outfit their whole party with Persona-infused endgame-level weapons. It’s good to see the mechanic return in some way in Persona 5 Tactica, since it had more potential than a single game could deliver on.

Weapon Crafting could be a major way that Persona 5 Tactica‘s Velvet Room could inspire ideas for Persona 6. The mechanic was put to good use in the game, giving the player a good supply of solid weapons, and Persona 6 could expand on it further. One way to do so would be to let players fuse armor as well as weapons, granting new resistances or bonuses depending on the Personas used. Likewise, bringing back the idea of high-powered weapons that could only be made by certain Personas would be a definite plus, especially if the selection is expanded to include more Personas than before.

Persona 5 Tactica‘s take on the Velvet Room could be an important influence on the way Persona 6 works once it comes out. Weapon Crafting could be expanded as an exciting new way for players to use their Personas, and could be a bigger deal if Persona 6 expands it appropriately. While Persona 3: FES introduced the idea to the Persona series, Persona 5 Tactica‘s revival brought it back into the public eye. The Weapon Fusion mechanic could very well be Persona 5 Tactica‘s greatest gift to Persona 6.
