An Overwatch 2 fan has combined their love of the game with Kirby, reimagining the pink puffball as many of the series heroes. Overwatch 2 has a diverse roster of playable characters with unique abilities, making it an excellent choice for crossover art with Kirby.

Kirby is no stranger to imitating other characters, as his iconic copy ability lets him take on the abilities of enemies seen in his game world. There are numerous examples of Kirby’s copy mechanic in action throughout the series, including Sword, Tornado, and Hammer, to name a few. In addition to allowing him to wield his foes’ abilities, copying them changes Kirby’s appearance, often giving him a fearsome, and sometimes adorable, outfit. Recently, one fan decided to put a new spin on the copy ability by having Kirby crossover with the Overwatch series.

Using the slate of Support, Damage, and Tank heroes in Overwatch 2 as inspiration, a Reddit user known as drowsykb has imagined copy abilities for Kirby based on the hero shooter, and the results are impressive. Featuring nearly every hero, the artist managed to capture the essence of Overwatch 2’s heroes in the art style of Kirby. While all the character reimaginings were impressive, some highlights included Reinhardt with his hammer and shield, along with Sojourn in the middle of her slide animation. Furthermore, the Wrecking Ball and D.Va designs harkened back to the mechs from Kirby: Planet Robobot.

What Kirby Would Look Like as Overwatch 2 Heroes

According to the creator, this drawing was based on old art they had made six years earlier for the original Overwatch. Sharing a picture of the original sketch, the new image reveals how the roster of heroes has increased substantially over the years, now featuring 41 playable characters. Unsurprisingly, this art has caught the attention of numerous Overwatch 2 and Kirby series fans on the internet. With over 1.7K upvotes in less than a day, many fans loved the designs, with some hoping drowsykb would add Overwatch 2 Season 12’s Juno to the character reimaginings in the future. In addition, many fans thought the designs would make excellent stickers.

Seeing fans create artwork combining their favorite video game characters is often exciting, and Kirby is doubtlessly one of the best options for this type of fusion art. Besides being very cute, this fan art serves as a reminder of Overwatch 2’s crossover potential. Blizzard has started to branch out to incorporate other media franchises into the world of Overwatch 2, including collaborations with World of Warcraft, Cowboy Bebop, and One Punch Man. While a crossover with Kirby will likely never happen in an official capacity, the community can at least enjoy art imagining what one could look like, thanks to talented fans.
