Overwatch 2 has a number of recurring events that take place in-game each year, usually to celebrate various seasons or anniversaries. These events are rather popular among fans of the game, as they tend to come paired with a new Battle Pass theme, seasonal hero skins and collectibles, profile decorations, and even limited-time game modes that can only be played during these timeframes.
Halloween Terror is the annual Halloween Overwatch event, and it made a return in mid-October, 2024, with the launch of Season 13: Spellbinder. This season is full of magic with a witch-themed Battle Pass and the return of the iconic Junkenstein’s Revenge and Wrath of the Bride Halloween game modes. However, in addition to this, there is also a brand new Junkenstein-themed variant, titled Junkenstein’s Laboratory. How Does the Junkenstein’s Laboratory Game Mode Work in Overwatch 2?
Junkenstein’s Laboratory is a limited-time Arcade game mode available during Overwatch 2’sHalloween Terror event in Season 13. This game mode enables players to create their own hero builds out of various ability cards known as ‘mutations’. Players can add Mutations only before the game, with the option to edit or remove Mutations once per round for their chosen hero.
However, it is important to note that there is no hero swapping in this game mode, so be sure of your selection at the beginning of the game! In addition to these rules, Junkenstein’s Laboratory is restricted to the following heroes and maps:

All Junkenstein’s Laboratory Abilities in Overwatch 2
The Junkenstein’s Lab abilities are known as Mutations, are pulled randomly into a set that players can then select and build from. Mutations can fall into one of several rarities, which are indicated by the number and color of pumpkins, similar to the color-coding system for the rarity of hero skins. As each round progresses, you will start to notice Mutations with an increase of rarity make an appearance, enabling you to strengthen your build and create potential strategy or counterplay against the enemy team.

- Scary Strikes: Swift Strike gains 1 additional charge, but its cooldown is increased by 30% and does not reset on kills.
- Shuriken Storm: Deflecting a projectile fires shurikens aimed at the attacker. Shuriken deals 1 damage.
- Master Ward: Deflection protects in all directions. Cooldown increases by 5 seconds.
- Dragon’s Breath: When attacking with the Dragonblade, it also fires a large piercing projectile that deals 100% of the damage from the Dragonblade.

- Braving Darkness: While using a movement skill, you gain excess life equal to 30% of your maximum health for 3 seconds.
- Frightful Impact: When hit directly by a rocket, the explosion damage of the rocket is increased by 50% for 2 seconds.
- Painful Pattern: Direct hits reduce the cooldown of skills by 0.5 seconds.
- Lingering Presence: Jump Jets, Jet Dash, and Haunting Entrance fire 6 micro-rockets in the direction you are facing.

- Haunting Entrance: Crouching in the air causes Pharah to slam into the ground. Deals 60 damage in a 6m radius and launches enemies into the air. Gain 20% fuel for each enemy hit.
- Boo-m!: Rocket’s AoE damage area increased by 30%.
- Concussive Vortex: Concussive Blasts creates a vortex that pushes enemies away.

- Vindictive Vision: Damaging an enemy more than 12 yards away reveals them for 3 seconds.
- Frightful Fortune: Critical hits add 4 Talismans to Kiriko’s next heal (maximum of 20).
- Twist of Fate: Critical hits reduce the cooldown of Swift Step and Suzu by 10%.
- Soothing Step: Swift Step heals nearby allies for 40% of Kiriko’s maximum health.
- Monstrous Suzu: Suzu projectile speed increased by 100% and radius increased by 45%.
Rare
- The Chariot: Healing Talisman increases allies’ attack speed by 20% for 1.5 seconds when they are healed.
- Catastrophic Kunai: When kunai hits a target, it explodes and deals 20% damage to the area.
- String of Fate: Teleport distance increased by 100%.
- Spirit World’s Gift: Kitsune heals allies for 75 health per second.
Legendary
- The Wheel of Fortune: When casting the Healing Talisman, Kiriko is healed for 5% of her maximum health.
- Dark Hand: Kunai gains 2 additional projectiles.
- Life Line: Swift Step grants 100 Overhealth for 15 seconds.
- The Star: Suzu lasts 200% longer and grants 15% attack speed and movement speed.
- Spirit Veil: When casting Kitsune, Kiriko becomes invincible for 3 seconds and removes negative effects.
Junkenstein’s Laboratory Balance Changes & Updates
Due to the success of this game mode and the immense popularity in the Overwatch community, a small balance update has been released. This tweaks the abilities that some heroes can receive by either nerfing, buffing, or altering them. These changes will be available until the limited-time game mode concludes on November 4.
Ashe Balance Changes
- Trail by Fire: Damage to burning targets now earns an additional 30% ultimate charge, previously 25%
- Fire and Fury: The Viper’s shots on burning targets now reduces the cooldowns of Coach Gun and Dynamite by 7%, previously 5%
- Demon’s Ward: Increased the health of the shield from the deployed Barrier Projector to 600 from 300
D.Va Balance Changes
- Anti-Boos: Fixed an issue where Booster impact was dealing extra damage in addition to the anti-healing debuff
- No Escape: Weapon Damage increase is reduced to 75% was 100%
Genji Balance Changes
- Scary Speed: Shuriken critical hits now increases attack speed by 3%, up to 10 stacks, for 10 seconds (previously increased attack speed by 2%, up to 15 stacks, for 10 seconds)
- Vampiric Deflect: Deflect now heals for 15% of your max health per second (previously 10%)
- Bitter Revenge: Deflect now causes the next Swift Strike to deal up to 75% more damage based on the damage prevented (previously 50%)
- Master Ward: Cooldown is now increased by 3 seconds (previously 5 seconds)
Kiriko Balance Changes
- Not Your Time: Now delivers 30% extra healing to allies below 50% health (previously 25% extra healing)
- Drawn Together: After teleporting, grant the nearest ally 75 Overhealth for 5 seconds (previously 50 Overhealth)
- Unburdened: After throwing a Protection Suzu, attack speed is increased by 20% for 10 seconds (previously 5 seconds)
- Vindictive Vision: Damaging enemies farther than 12 meters now reveals them for 5 seconds (previously 3 seconds)
- Spirit World’s Gift: Protection Suzu now heals Kiriko for extra 100 health and grants and 25% movement speed for 5 seconds (previously 80 health for 3 seconds)
Mercy Balance Changes
- Mend and Mar: Mercy now heals all allies within 20 meters for 150% of the damage she deals while not in Valkyrie (previously 100%). Healing for damage dealt while Valkyrie is active remains at 200%
- Power for a Price: Caduceus Staff’s damage boost now heals attached targets for 10% of their damage dealt to enemies (previously 7.5%)
- Sustained Servant: The cooldown is reduced to 7 seconds (previously 10 seconds)
- Witches Never Die: We have increased the health of the shield health from the deployed Barrier Projector to 600 from 300
- Fall from Grace: While using Angelic Descent, Movement Speed is now increased by 20% (previously 15%)
Moira Balance Changes
- Frightening Fascination: Secondary Fire now stays locked to targets at a 40% narrow angle (previously from 50%)
- Siphon Strike: Quick Melee now restores 15% of Max Biotic energy (previously 10%)
- Equilibrium: Now reduces movement speed by 20% (previously 30%)
Orisa Balance Changes
- Flight by Night: While casting Javelin Spin, Orisa gains free flight and 15% increased movement speed
- Megamonster: Gain 200% Overhealth while being slowed by 20% (previously 35%)
- Waning Whirlwind: Javelin Spin now instantly depletes 90% of Max Augmented Fusion Driver’s Overheat meter (previously 50%)
- Chilling Blow: Energy Javelin now instantly depletes 90% of Augmented Fusion Driver’s Overheat meter (previously 50%)
- Arcane Energy: Energy Javelin now has 20% reduced cooldown (previously 15%)
