  • Tracer, a beloved character, underwent a design change in Overwatch 2, with her iconic arm holsters missing from her modern look.
  • Fans have noticed this change, sparking speculation and discussion on why the decision was made and whether holsters may return in the future.

An Overwatch fan points out that Tracer’s arm holsters from the first game are missing in Overwatch 2. Tracer is among many Overwatch 2 characters carried over from the original game, but Blizzard seemed to make one mistake in her modern design.

When Overwatch 2 was released, it retained many features from the original game. The hero roster and many maps were modernized in the sequel, most of the same game modes were present, and players still had access to their cosmetics unlocked in its predecessor. Because no characters were lost in the jump to the sequel, fans could still play as their favorites. Despite some changes that turned Doomfist into a Tank and reworked Orisa’s toolkit, many characters still felt similar to the original game. Tracer has become a fan favorite over the years, as she’s somewhat of a mascot character for the series, but one gamer has showcased a major difference between the modern Tracer and her original form.

An Overwatch 2 fan highlights how players take the long way to get to the capture point on the Blizzard World map, which could cost them a victory.

Reddit user Waasaap recently shared a clip highlighting the difference between the original Tracer and her Overwatch 2 counterpart. The video begins by showing Tracer from the first Overwatch spinning her Pulse Pistols into conveniently placed holsters on her forearm. This design was maintained on multiple skins from the first game as highlighted by the Reddit user. The clip then depicts Overwatch 2‘s Tracer, and her Pulse Pistols seemingly spin in and out of existence because the holsters are missing. This aesthetic change makes Tracer’s form a little less bulky, but it has left some fans wondering what happened to the arm holsters.

Overwatch 2’s Tracer May Include One Obvious Mistake

Tracer’s original gear had a very smooth animation of the guns slowly disappearing into her forearms. The transition is so seamless that Waasaap has to slow their footage to highlight how many frames the animation includes. The Overwatch 2 counterpart has a very similar animation, but there are no holsters opening to embrace the damage-dealer’s guns. Though perhaps a conscious design choice, the missing Pulse Pistol holsters result in a bizarre animation. As the game features futuristic tech like its predecessor, it may make sense for the pistols to vanish like Overwatch 2 Damage hero Sombra. Because it hasn’t been explained through the game or animations related to it, some fans are left wondering why the change was made.

With Blizzard regularly updating Overwatch 2, Tracer may see the Pulse Pistol holsters return in a future patch. Given that it hasn’t yet been addressed, the developer also has the opportunity to give a lore reason for it via a community post or animated short.
