In Palworld, there are nine different elemental types and over 100 different pals that make up the entire Paldeck. The types include Fire, Water, Ice, Electric, Ground, Grass, Dragon, Dark, and Neutral, and all come with their own strengths and weaknesses, except for Neutral-type pals, who have no type advantage. The Ground-type pals of Palworld are essential for brushing off electric attacks and mining valuable resources, but they also have some of the strongest available pals.

Palworld Can’t Rest on its Early Access Laurels in 2024

Palworld was one of the most successful Early Access games at launch, but its recent falloff shows Pocket Pair has to keep improving.

Ground-type pals have 14 in total, making them one of the rare element types, and just eight of the 14 are pure Ground types. Their elemental disadvantage comes against Grass-type pals, although three of 14 Ground-types also have the Grass element to their advantage. For new and seasoned players alike looking to gain the upper hand, these Ground-type pals give players the best chance to build a team of solid attackers who also have extra benefits on the side.

8 Hangyu

Gliding In The Early Game

Palworld Hangyu-1

  • Type: Ground
  • Partner Skill: Flying Trapeze
  • Work Suitability: Handiwork Lv. 1, Transporting Lv. 1, Gathering Lv. 1

In the early game, players may have difficulty traveling from region to region, especially when the stamina bar depletes too quickly. Hangyu’s partner skill, Flying Trapeze, allows players to glide through the air and access parts of the map that would otherwise be impossible to reach by swimming. Hangyu can also be obtained early on, via a Rocky Egg or by breeding commonly-found pals, such as Lifmunk and Foxparks.

While Hangyu isn’t the strongest Ground-type pal available in Palworld, it’s best suited to help players discover stronger pals in the faraway lands thanks to its partner skill. Furthermore, Hangyu is a good addition to the base early on, as it can lend a helping hand with Handiwork, Transporting, and Gathering, which all come at Level 1. Hangyu will be replaced later with better pals that have a higher level of work suitability, but it will remain a constant source of utility thanks to Flying Trapeze.

7 Dumud

The Derpy-Looking Miner

Dumud with the player

  • Type: Ground
  • Partner Skill: Soil Improver
  • Work Suitability: Transporting Lv. 1, Watering Lv. 1, Mining Lv. 2, Farming Lv. 1

Despite its unassumingly harmless appearance, Dumud is a versatile ground-type pal that can be effective on the base and in the player’s party. Thanks to its partner skill, Soil Improver, the effects of ground-type attacks are increased as long as Dumud is in the party. For players looking to set up an all-ground team, Dumud is one of the best supplementary choices to give the rest of the party a significant boost.

Dumud is also great to have back home at the base, as it offers plenty of versatility with its work suitability. Dumud can help with watering crops and transporting goods, has a Level 2 Mining ability to take advantage of, and can also farm one of the more useful items in Palworld. With a ranch set up at the base, Dumud can farm High-Quality Pal Oil, which can be used as ingredients to develop weapons and ammunition, along with resources like Polymer.

6 Robinquill Terra

A Well-Rounded Archer

PALWORLD-ROBINQUILL-TERRA

  • Type: Ground & Grass
  • Partner Skill: Hawk Eye
  • Work Suitability: Handiwork Lv. 2, Lumbering Lv. 1, Medicine Lv. 1, Transporting Lv. 2, Gathering Lv. 2

Robinquill Terra sheds its weakness on Grass thanks to being Ground and Grass itself, but it gains the weakness against Fire-type pals. Ironically, Robinquill Terra can be found in the hot sandy dunes of the desert region, roaming in groups of three or more. This specific pal will attack upon sight and is relentless in bringing down its opponent.

Along with being a formidable fighter in battle, Robinquill Terra is an upgrade back at the base thanks to Level 2 Gathering, Transporting, and Handiwork. It’s also helpful with Lumbering and Medicine, making Robinquill Terra one of the more versatile base workers in Palworld. Robinquill Terra’s partner skill, Hawk Eye, does more damage when a weak area is targeted, and Level 5 will produce a 40% increase in its power.

5 Digtoise

The Turtle With A Hard Shell

Palworld Digtoise

  • Type: Ground
  • Partner Skill: Drill Crusher
  • Work Suitability: Mining Lv. 3

For players looking to farm resources, Digtoise may be one of the best options for mining. Thanks to its Level 3 Mining work suitability, Digtoise will smash any stone or ore cluster to oblivion in a matter of seconds. Digtoise’s partner skill, Drill Crusher, sends it into a spinning frenzy, following the player wherever it goes and bulldozing into any cluster that gets in its way.

Digtoise is also a very defensive Ground-type pal, packing a whopping 120 base defensive stat. It’s unfortunately quite slow when walking and running, and doesn’t harness much power in its melee or shot attack stats, but it can come in handy in a pinch when players need a pal to absorb a few strong attacks. Digtoise is best served as a mining deity for those looking to stockpile resources early and late game.

4 Reptyro & Reptyro Cryst

Hot And Cold Base Needs

Palworld_Paldeck_Reptyro

  • Type: Ground & Fire / Ground & Ice
  • Partner Skill: Ore-Loving Beast / Ice-Loving Beast
  • Work Suitability: Kindling / Cooling Lv. 3, Mining Lv. 3

Reptyro and Reptyro Cryst are the yin and yang to the hot and cold system in Palworld. While the former embraces the hottest temperatures of a volcano, the latter prefers the frigid cold. While both are Ground-type pals at the base level, Reptyro captures the heat of the Fire element while Reptyro Cryst focuses on the Ice element. Both are powerful pals on their own merit but provide players with contrasting utility from one another.

The different factions and their camps within the islands of Palworld can pose a problem by affecting how players take on the game’s world.

Both Reptyro and Reptyro Cryst have a Level 3 Mining work suitability, which will serve the base needs of farming stone and ore efficiently, but Reptyro and Reptyro Cryst also have a Level 3 Kindling and Cooling ability, respectively. While their partner skills differ slightly in name, both offer the same value of raising the mining ability of the pal while mounted. Reptyro and Reptyro Cryst serve as excellent late-game base pals.

3 Warsect

A Warrior Pal With Unbreakable Armor

  • Type: Ground & Grass
  • Partner Skill: Hard Armor
  • Work Suitability: Planting Lv. 1, Handiwork Lv. 1, Lumbering Lv. 2, Transporting Lv. 3

Warsect lives up to its name, combining the words “war” and “insect”, delivering one of the most destructive elephant beetles known to man. Warsect packs tremendous power in both melee and shot attack, and is beefed up in defense thanks to its impenetrable armor. For those brave enough to attempt to crack it, Warsect also has one of the highest HP stats of all Ground-type pals.

Players who have added Warsect to their team will be able to take full advantage of its partner skill, Hard Armor. Not only does the skill increase the player’s overall defense, but when fighting alongside Warsect, the attacks by the player will also have the Fire element added to them. At the base, Warsect is excellent for transporting materials, and its Level 2 Lumbering will put in the work whenever the stock of wood runs low.

2 Menasting

Pure Darkness Incarnate

Palworld - Petting Menasting

  • Type: Ground & Dark
  • Partner Skill: Steel Scorpion
  • Work Suitability: Lumbering Lv. 2, Mining Lv. 3

Menasting is one of the more difficult Alpha Pals in Palworld, and taking it down will take more than just the strongest weapons and ammunition. Not only does Menasting have access to a bundle of powerful attacks, but it also carries a heavy defense that will draw out long battles against the strongest foes. To add to a higher degree of difficulty, players will have to take Menasting on inside a cave, where movement is limited and there’s nowhere to run or hide.

Having Level 2 Lumbering and Level 3 Mining is a nice addition to a powerful beast in Menasting, but players will receive more value by having it on their team. Menasting’s combination of offense and defense makes it one of the best pals in Palworld, and its partner skill will certainly help with gathering certain materials. Steel Scorpion, Menasting’s partner skill, boosts the player’s defense, while Electric-type pals will drop more items upon defeat. This is perfect for players in need of Electric Organs, as Menasting’s ability will make this tedious job feel like less of a chore.

1 Anubis

An Idol Of Wealth And Power

A picture of Anubis from Palworld, facing towards the camera

  • Type: Ground
  • Partner Skill: Guardian of the Desert
  • Work Suitability: Handiwork Lv. 4, Transporting Lv. 2, Mining Lv. 3

In terms of overall power and stat spread, there is no better Ground-type pal than Anubis. This pure Ground pal has a humanoid-jackal appearance, approaching its foe with a stance resembling the strongest martial artists, and Anubis will unleash powerful attacks in quick succession. Its brute strength is indicative of its special move, Ground Smash, where Anubis leaps high into the air before delivering an explosive blow that damages anything during its landing.

The Guardian of the Desert partner skill will grant players a Ground elemental bonus to their attacks while fighting alongside Anubis. Additionally, Anubis will dodge attacks on occasion, sidestepping the enemy with lightning speed. One of the more promising base allies, players will surely want to add a couple of Anubis to their collection and take advantage of a Level 4 Handiwork, alongside Level 3 Mining and Level 2 Transporting. Whether it’s providing extra support at the base or being the strongest ally on the team, Anubis can do it all.
