As players draw closer to the end of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s main story, they’ll be tasked with finding a way to reach the moon. Luckily, after some helpful input from Mario’s recent partner Bobbery, the Bob-ombs of Fahr Outpost have just the cannon for the job.
Unluckily, Mario will need to track down two other Bob-ombs and get their permission in order to use the large device: Goldbob and General White. Stricken with wanderlust, players will find themselves searching for General White all over the map during Chapter 7 and again in a later Trouble Center listing.

Want to add Ms. Mowz to your team? Here’s how to get this partner character in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
Where to Find Goldbob in TTYD
To begin, players can go speak to Goldbob, the owner of the cannon, and get his approval for its operation. Having just visited his hometown of Poshley Heights in the previous chapter of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it should be a quick trip over.
The shiny Bob-omb will be waiting outside his home alongside his family. Wishing to test Mario’s seriousness, he asks how much players are willing to pay in order to use the cannon. Players will need to offer up everything they have, and will be asked if they’re sure multiple times by Goldbob.
Mario will hand over every coin in his inventory and receive permission in the form of Goldbob’s Pass. Luckily, Goldbob has no need for Mario’s money, so he returns every hard-earned bit to the plumber.
Where to Find General White in TTYD
The more difficult of the two Bob-ombs to locate is General White. He’s in charge of actually operating the cannon, but without a purpose for it, he becomes depressed and wanders off.
Players may remember seeing the white Bob-omb sulking around Petalburg earlier in the game as shown above. That’s where Mario can begin the search, but it would seem that General White is nowhere to be found. Players can speak to the Koopa near the entrance to Petalburg to learn that he has wandered off to a deserted isle. Mario will need to make his way to Keelhaul Key and continue the search.
At each subsequent destination, players can talk to a specific character to learn about the next location. However, they cannot skip ahead and must speak to everyone in order. This process will be much easier if players have unlocked the ability to fast-travel by quickly warping between towns.
- Koopa at the entrance to Petalburg
- Pa-Patch in Keelhaul Key
- Podler in the Glitzville Juice Bar
- Puni at the entrance of the Great Tree
- Mayor Dour in Twlight Town
Finally, players will be directed back to Fahr Outpost, where they can find General White asleep in his house at the far end of town. They’ll be prompted to wake him up by jumping on him several times. Eventually, Mario will prove successful, and General White will excitedly prepare for the use of the cannon.
Trouble Center: Where is General White
After returning to Rogueport following Chapter 7, a listing from Goldbob will appear on the Trouble Center’s bulletin board. He has a package he wishes to be delivered to his good friend, General White.
Taking the package to his home in Fahr Outpost, a different Bob-omb will be waiting for Mario. General White has once again wandered off, this time in the direction of Podley’s bar in Rogueport.
Players will once again need to speak to several characters in sequence to locate the general, barely missing him each time.
- Podley in Rogueport
- Podler in the Glitzville Juice Bar
- Goldbob in Poshley Heights
Eventually, players will find themselves back at General White’s house where he has fallen into a deep sleep. Jumping on him up in the same way as before, players can wake him up and complete the delivery.
To complete the trouble listing, players should return to Goldbob with the good news and receive 64 coins in appreciation.
