The Persona series is known for its challenging optional bosses, from the menacing, ever-approaching Reaper to tricky battles against previous protagonists. One recurring staple of the series is the ability to battle the game’s Velvet Room Attendant, who typically use a mix of high-level Personas and abilities. However, Persona 6 could bring this Persona tradition to the next level by allowing players to battle not just the Velvet Room’s newest attendant, but its master Igor himself.

Since Persona 3, players have had the option of challenging the Velvet Room’s attendant in late-game, high-level battles. It is generally recommended that players undertake this challenge only once they have reached the max level. Winning these fights typically requires bringing optimized weapons and specifically designed Personas with skills capable of countering the Attendant’s. Often, a player will need to challenge the attendants multiple times to get to know their attack pattern, the Personas they use, and any special conditions of the fight.

The Master Of The Velvet Room Remains Unchallenged

Persona 3 Reload Igor Velvet Room

Igor has appeared in the Velvet Room since the first Persona game, and has been fully in charge of it since Persona 3 (a role he took over from the still-missing Philemon.) Igor is shown to be a master of all things related to Personas – he can manage the Persona Compendium, fuse Personas together, strengthen them, and perform many other related tasks.

However, despite his power and connection to the Velvet Room, Igor has never appeared as an optional boss like the attendants have. In Persona 5, the villain Yaldabaoth disguises himself as Igor for much of the game, and does fight the party, but he is not the real Igor and does not fight like Igor presumably would. Players have wanted the chance to challenge Igor since the Velvet Room attendant battles were first announced, and he would certainly be a tricky boss that would put everything players have learned about Personas to the test.

How An Igor Boss Fight Could Work

Persona Igor thinking

Like Elizabeth/Theodore, Margaret, the twins and Lavenza, a hypothetical Persona 6 Igor boss battle would likely be a tricky late-game battle that could come with special rules. Ideally, Igor should also use extremely high-level Personas, such as the Ultimate Personas of the various Major Arcana. While it cannot be predicted exactly how Igor would behave as a boss, some potential options might include:

  • Using Ultimate Personas that represent the various Attendants he has worked with, such as Empress for Margaret or Strength for Caroline and Justine.
  • Using Personas wielded by previous protagonists, such as Orpheus, Izanagi, and Arsene.
  • Limiting which Personas the player has access to by temporarily altering the Persona Compendium for the duration of the battle.
  • Summoning the Attendants to heal or support him in battle.

In addition to Igor, an even harder challenge could be Philemon, the original master of the Velvet Room who has been missing since Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. Philemon is sometimes theorized to be the creator or originator of the Persona system, and his mastery of battling with Personas could top even Igor’s. Alternately, the player could battle Nameless, Belladonna, and the Demon Painter, the unfought Attendants from Persona 2, in addition to whatever new Attendant or Attendants Persona 6 will almost certainly introduce.
