Highlights

  • Agumon is reimagined as a Fire Pokemon by a fan artist, with a full evolution line.
  • The fan created line includes Agumander, Greymeleon, and Metalzard.
  • Some fans enjoy combining Pokemon and Digimon in unique art creations despite Digimon not matching Pokemon’s financial success.

A Pokemon fan artist took a different approach to their latest work, as they redesigned Agumon from the Digimon franchise as if it were a Fire Pokemon complete with evolutions and type listings. The Pokemon fan artist shared their finished work on social media for fans of both franchises to see.

As the mascot of the Digimon series, Agumon is a Rookie-level Vaccine Digimon who is often partnered with Taichi “Tai” Kamiya in the Digimon Adventure anime series. Agumon’s maneuvers often involve the element of fire, including its signature Pepper Breath attack, and it can use its sharp claws to defend itself. However, Agumon’s true potential lies in its potential to Digivolve into multiple forms when facing off against Virus Digimon. In the Digimon Adventure anime, considered one of the best isekai anime to feature a child protagonist, Agumon can become Greymon, MetalGreymon, and WarGreymon to protect Tai and fight back against evil digital monstrosities like Myotismon and Piedmon.

Pokemon GO Announces New Team Rocket Event And Fans Aren’t Happy

Niantic announces the Pokemon GO Adventure Week: Taken Over event featuring Team GO Rocket, and fans aren’t happy about one major aspect.

With both Pokemon and Digimon being compared to one another over the years, a fan artist chose to combine the franchises with their handiwork. A Reddit user named Matratzfratz gave the fiery Digimon and two of its forms a Pokemon spin and shared their handiwork on the r/pokemon subreddit. Matratzfratz chose the Charmander line as the basis for their artwork and combined it with Agumon, Greymon, and MetalGreymon. To start, Agumon was changed to Agumander, which featured an orange body and blue eyes but had no hand claws compared to the former. Upon evolution, Agumander changed to Greymeleon and gained its signature brown horns and blue stripes across its body. Greymeleon then became Metalzard, and was granted both blue wings and a metallic helmet. While MetalGreymon is known for its robotic left arm, Matratzfratz gave their Metalzard some steel claws on both arms instead.

Pokemon Fan Artist Combines Charmander With Agumon

Known for their previous artwork of convergent Pokemon forms, Matratzfratz classified Agumander and Greymeleon as Fire-type Pokemon. Metalzard was listed as a Fire and Steel dual-type Pokemon. However, no signature moves, abilities, or statistics were given to Agumander or its evolutions. Theoretically, the Agumander family would be strong against Grass and Bug Pokemon. On the other hand, Metalzard’s dual typing would cause it to falter against Ground-type monsters, such as Golem and Rhyperior, in a Pokemon battle.

Though Digimon has never matched the financial success of Pokemon, that has not stopped fans from creating art that combines the two franchises in unique ways. It remains to be seen what fans of both monster-themed franchises will create next.
