An artistically talented Pokemon fan is garnering the attention of several thousand fellow Pokemon fans after posting their artwork featuring a variety of Pokemon re-imagined as fishing lures. The series of Pokemon-themed fishing lures, which feature both Water and Bug-type Pokemon, is getting numerous requests from fans for the design as a print, a t-shirt, and more.

The fan-made Pokemon fishing lures are not to be confused with the franchise’s other Lure items, although they are intended to have the same effect. Introduced in Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and its Let’s Go, Eevee! counterpart, the item is still commonly used in the mainline titles. PokemonGO features something slightly different in the form of Lure Modules. Several Pokemon GO Pokemon evolve with Lures, although they wouldn’t help someone actually catch fish like the ones below.

Pokemon Fan Shows Off Sirfetch’d Cosplay

A talented Pokemon fan and cosplayer is getting plenty of attention after showing off their unusual yet impressive cosplay of Sirfetch’d.

Posted onto one of Reddit’s biggest Pokemon pages, r/pokemon, user BoxofBolts has created eight different lures, from what seem to be top water to swimbaits, each modeled after recognizable Pokemon. The painting appears to have been done with a few different tools, including colored pencils and watercolor paints, evoking the coloring and shading of the traditional Ken Sugimori Pokemon art style. There appears to be a clear distinction between the Bug-type and Water-type lures, in that the flying Bug-types each have a single hook akin to a stinger. The Water-type Pokemon, along with Caterpie, feature treble hooks dangling below.

The Pokemon featured as lures are:

  • Remoraid
  • Magikarp
  • Caterpie
  • Wishiwashi
  • Venomoth
  • Cutiefly
  • Luvdisc
  • Barboach

With nearly a whopping 5,000 upvotes at the time of writing, it’s safe to say these Pokemon-themed lures have fellow Pokemon fans hooked. Hundreds of comments populate the popular post lauding the art piece, where it’s discovered the creator does indeed sell prints of their work. The correlation between real-life fish and Pokemon has been stronger than ever in recent years, with fish playing, winning badges, and even successfully beating Pokemon Sapphire. The same game-completing fish revealed a Pokemon YouTuber’s credit card info during a livestream last year, purchasing several items on the Nintendo eShop.

Fishing for Pokemon Fishing Lures

While the Pokemon fishing lure designs are certainly well-made, fans can actually get their hands on similar real-life lures. The real-life official Pokemon fishing lures were announced a couple of years ago, featuring designs of Pikachu and Kyogre. While seemingly limited to Japan, dedicated Pokemon fans can always procure them from resale markets. With such a buzz from the fan-made lures, hopefully more real-world Pokemon fishing lures will be produced in the future.
