Known as the Bug Catcher Pokemon, Carnivine first appeared in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. As a pure Grass-type Pokemon, Carnivine is based on a Venus flytrap. It has a green body with white eyes, vines across its lower half, and a wide mouth covered with sharp teeth. Although Carnivine does not evolve into any Pokemon, it has decent physical and special attack stats. Carnivine can also use moves like Energy Ball, Crunch, and Vine Whip to deter foes. In the Pokemon anime, James from Team Rocket used a Carnivine throughout his missions in Sinnoh, where it fulfilled a role similar to his Victreebel.

Although Carnivine cannot be caught in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, that has not stopped one trainer from remembering the Bug Catcher Pokemon. A Reddit user named CherryAbsol created a new evolution for Carnivine and shared their finished work on the r/pokemon subreddit. The new form was dubbed “Devoudravine” by CherryAbsol. The artist stated that Devoudravine’s new name was derived from the words Devour, Hydra, and Vine. Compared to Carnivine, the evolved form gained two extra mouths at the end of its arms, and it grew new leaves on the back that were shaped like a cape. Devoudravine was also given golden eyes and more teeth, each with the red tips of a Venus flytrap. Devoudravine also had more leaves shaped like a crown on the back of its head, and it was given the types of Grass and Dragon. CherryAbsol also shared the shiny version of Devoudravine, which kept the same gold and brown portions as Carnivine.

For their effort, CherryAbsol was praised by Pokemon fans, with some pointing out the red tips on its teeth as an accurate representation of a Venus flytrap. In the replies, CherryAbsol added some additional details about Devoudravine’s statistics. With a high attack stat and the hidden ability Strong Jaw, Devoudravine would be a powerful Grass and Dragon type in the Pokemon series if it existed.

CherryAbsol also stated a Carnivine would evolve into a Devoudravine at level 37 if it knows a biting move. Although Carnivine was absent from the Paldea region, it remains to be seen if the Bug Catcher Pokemon will return to the series in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
