  • Despite little official information, fans are excited for Pokemon Legends: Z-A and speculate on which creatures will receive new mega forms.

Custom creature designs made by Pokemon fans often have a focus on Mega Evolution, and one artist has recently shared a batch of their own designs which present unofficial mega forms for each of the Kalos region’s starter Pokemon: Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja. Unsurprisingly, the Gen 6 Pokemon games have been getting a lot of attention from the community since the announcement of Pokemon Legends: Z-A at the start of the year, a game set to release next year which will take players back to the Kalos region for the first time in over a decade.

First introduced in the Pokemon X and Y games, Mega Evolution was essentially the series’ first major “battle gimmick,” later paving the way for similar features such as Z-Moves and Terastallization in later games. Mega Evolution has always comfortably remained the fan favorite among battle gimmicks, allowing Pokemon to evolve beyond their final form and take on awesome new appearances in addition to heightened stats. Unfortunately, Mega Evolution has been absent from more recent Pokemon titles, last appearing in the Gen 7 games – though to much of the community’s surprise, the gimmick has been confirmed to return in the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Now that it’s been nearly an entire decade since the introduction of a new Mega Pokemon, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has to address this gap through breadth.

This has spurred lots of creative fans to show off their own custom Mega Pokemon designs throughout the year so far, but one artist known as Mystreek recently shared their own set of designs which consist of potential mega forms for the three Kalos starters. Much of the Pokemon community has always questioned why the games that introduced Mega Evolution didn’t provide mega forms for the region’s starters, leading many to create their own versions over the years. This fan art has quickly picked up a lot of attention, with the designs themselves subtly changing up the Pokemon’s original appearances and even granting each one a weapon based on their type.

What These Custom Mega Pokemon Look Like

The greatly-anticipated return of Mega Evolution has sparked plenty of discussion among the franchise’s massive community. Fans continue to discuss which creatures they believe are most deserving of their own mega form in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, with the excitement generated by the game’s short, solitary reveal trailer giving rise to plenty of speculation and fan art.

Unfortunately, little is officially known about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, even around half a year after its announcement. While Mega Evolution is confirmed to be coming back, there’s no real indication of how many new mega forms the game might introduce. It seems like the game will take place almost entirely within Lumiose City, taking players on a new adventure in the past during the period in which this iconic location within the Pokemon world develops into what fans are familiar with.
