Croagunk and its evolutionary form, Toxicroak have been mainstays in the franchise since they made their debuts in Pokemon Diamondand Pearl for the Nintendo DS. Despite being a popular line of Poison-type Pokemon, Croagunk has yet to see a regional variant. The regional Croagunk and its new evolution, Croatagious, were posted to the r/Pokemon subreddit by VORT3XSN1PER where they are reimagined as Ice/Poison Pokemon. According to the artist, Croagunk is a frog that chills its body to enter a hibernation-like state over the winter. The cheek of this new regional monster contains a bacteria that has almost been eradicated but is using Croagunk as a host to keep itself alive.
Fan Designs Regional Form Of Croagunk And New Evolution
For the evolution of Croagunk, the original poster decided to create a completely new regional evolution in the form of Croatagious. Much like the unevolved form, this monster also has the Ice/Poison dual type, but this time the bacteria has spread to its back where it can pluck them free to throw at unsuspecting enemies. As well as being interesting regional forms, this new Croagunk line would fill a gap as one of the few unused type pairings in the Pokemon franchise.
Love for Croagunk is rife throughout the Pokemon community. Fans have also taken to the Poison/Fighting type with one player designing new evolutionary forms for Croagunk. This is for good reason as the fighting frog has seen representation throughout every generation since its inception in 2007, including being a character in the Pokemon spin-off Pokken Tournament.
It remains to be seen if the evolutionary line for Croagunk will be looked at in future games. The upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see a return of Mega Evolutions when it releases in 2025. With the popular mechanic returning, it is not out of the question that players could see some new regional forms as they explore the streets of Lumiose City. While there are no specific details on which Pokemon will get the Mega Evolution treatment, it is more than likely Game Freak will have a few surprises in store when the game releases for Nintendo Switch.
