Three Pokemon fans have shared their story of completing the Gen 2 Pokedex and photos of their printed certificates as evidence. Each Pokemon generation has a dedicated fan base of experts, and these three gamers completed Gold, Silver, and Crystal after 25 years.
Pokemon Gold and Silver were released in 1999, with Crystal coming out the following year. Since then, Gen 2 has become a favorite with many Pokemon fans pointing to the Johto Pokemon, dual regions, and the Nintendo DS remakes as reasons why it remains beloved. Some Gen 2 Pokemon continue to get updated character models in newer titles, with Cyndaquil even featured as one of the starters in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. While many gamers continue to work towards completing the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokedex, others still work towards completing earlier collections. One trio of friends has shared photos and memories of their journey to completing the Gold, Silver, and Crystal Pokedex.

Pokemon GO players are alerted to an opportunity to catch Tornadus in a raid, but for these fans, it arrives at the absolute worst time.
Reddit user FedeX15 recently shared five images from their journey to completing the Pokemon Gen 2 Pokedex, including Celebi and Mew. The first image shows the trio holding the Gold, Silver, and Crystal cartridges. One photo shows two of them playing the games with a Link Cable connecting their handhelds, while another focuses on the certificate of authenticity which is printed in Spanish. This certificate appears to be printed by a Game Boy Printer, highlighting the lengths these gamers went to capture the spirit of Gen 2. The Reddit user confirmed that Mew was captured using a popular Red and Blue glitch, while the Virtual Console Gen 2 games allowed them to obtain Celebi legitimately.
These Three Pokemon Fans Completed the Gen 2 Pokedex
Due to the Kanto starters, Legendary Birds, and more being exclusive to Gen 1, the trio had to backtrack to acquire some Pokemon. According to FedeX15, the hardest Pokemon to acquire in Gold, Silver, and Crystal were Pokemon‘s Legendary Beasts Entei, Raikou, and Suicune. This is presumably because they’re notoriously difficult to capture, and they switch map locations quickly. The gamer also confirmed that the Crystal owner did most of the heavy lifting in this challenge and provided the necessary hardware for the challenge. A Game Boy Operator, basically a cartridge slot for the computer, was used in the process to ensure everything was legitimately obtained, with the exception of Mew.
While some players have gone beyond Gen 2 in completing the Pokemon National Pokedex, this story highlights the staying power of earlier Pokemon releases. Although other gamers may have completed the Gen 2 Pokedex sooner, the post is a reminder that it’s never too late to scratch things off the gaming bucket list.
