Debuting at the start of the Psychic Spectacular Pokemon GO event in 2024 is Hatenna. This Psychic-type Pokemon, along with its two evolutions, Hattrem and Hatterene, will be available to catch for the first time for everyone at enhanced odds for a limited time.

When the September 18, 2024, Psychic Spectacular event begins, you’ll find there are multiple ways to encounter a Hatenna in Pokemon GO. Since its final form adds the Fairy-type, it could be a viable PvP contender or a powerhouse to take into raids against Dragon-type legendary Pokemon. Some may also be wondering if the shiny forms of the Hatenna line are also available in this event, and this guide will reveal all.

How to get Hatenna in Pokemon GO?

According to the Pokemon GO Live Blog, you can encounter Hatenna in the wild, complete Field Research Tasks during the event, or hatch 7 km eggs. During the Psychic Spectacular event, you can also purchase the paid Timed Research to get an encounter with Hatenna, among other goodies such as Incubators and Star Pieces. Make sure that you complete the research before September 22, 2024 at 8pm local time. Hattrem and Hatterene are only available via evolution, but Niantic may add them as an encounter in future events.

Hatenna is a Psychic-type Pokemon with a low maximum CP of 910. Despite being relatively balanced, its stat spread isn’t much to write home about, with 98 ATK, 93 DEF, and 123 STA. We highly recommend evolving it to a Hatterene, which has significantly improved stats.

Pokemon GO: Get Hatenna in the Wild

In events that boost Pokemon spawns, such as this one, you can boost your chances of encountering Hatenna by strategically using items such as Pokemon GO Incense and Lure Modules. If the weather permits, you can also take advantage of the Weather Boost effect. Here are the steps to increase Hatenna’s wild spawn rate during its featured event:

  • Find a PokeStop within windy weather areas.
  • Attach a Lure Module
  • Activate an Incense or Daily Incense
  • Walk around the area for a while and see if any Hatenna spawn

Pokemon GO: Get Hatenna by completing Research Tasks

Another way of getting the Psychic-type Pokemon is to complete many of the Pokemon GO Field Research tasks that will appear during the Psychic Spectacular event. We’ll update this article if there is a Field Research task that guarantees an encounter with Hatenna.

Pokemon GO: Get Hatenna by hatching eggs

Those who wish to get Hatenna this way will need to hatch specifically 7 km eggs during the Psychic Spectacular event. You can use Super Incubators to try and reduce the total walking distance by half or save the eggs for a Community Day event in the future where you can reduce the hatching distance with Super Incubators to a manageable 1.75 km.

Pokemon GO: How to get Hattrem and Hatterene?

After you catch a Hatenna, you can evolve it into a Hattrem, before giving it enough candy to transform it into the Psychic/Fairy-type Hatterene. The only requirement for evolution in Pokemon GO is to feed them candy:

  • Evolve a Hatenna into a Hattrem: 25 Hatenna Candy
  • Evolve a Hattrem into a Hatterene: 100 Hatenna Candy

It’s worth evolving fully into Hatterene as it could be one of the best Fairy-types in Pokemon GO. While its 3198 max CP isn’t all that high, its dual-typing gives it a boost in windy and cloudy conditions. On top of that, its 237 ATK is nothing to sniff at, while its 182 DEF and 149 STA are serviceable. Its move coverage is what might give it an edge over other Fairy-types in the game right now, as it has access to the Psycho Cut and Charm fast attacks, while also wielding powerhouse charged attacks such as Psychic and Dazzling Gleam. It also has Power Whip if you wish for type coverage.

Pokemon GO: Can Hatenna, Hattrem, and Hatterene be shiny?

Pokemon Sword Shield Hatenna

When debuting some Pokemon in Pokemon GO, Niantic has very occasionally released their shiny variants on the same day. However, these instances are few and far between. As such, Hatenna, Hattrem, and Hatterene will not be shiny during the Psychic Spectacular event. However, that does not mean we won’t ever see these Pokemon in their shiny forms, but we could at least be waiting quite a while.
