A Pokemon fan has created a Mewtwo card holder that’s ideal for holding cards from The Pokemon Card Game or even Magic: The Gathering. The creative Pokemon idea has spurred a conversation about what kind of Pokemon would make the best card holder.

Dedicated Pokemon fans have been creating artwork in two and three dimensions since the series’ inception in the ’90s. However, with 3D printing having only become a relatively accessible hobby in fairly recent times, it’s opened doors to creating all kinds of interesting Pokemon projects that would be difficult to bring to life in any other way. Whether fans are designing their own 3D printed Poke Balls from the ground up or making unique card holders, there’s a lot of possibilities out there, and players have likely only just begun to scratch the surface.

Old Pokemon Card Discovered in 2001 School Bus

An old Pokemon trading card from one of the game’s earlier waves is discovered in a school bus, having apparently been left there since 2001.

One fan that’s recently created a 3D-printed piece of Pokemon loot is RubDue1609, who shared their Mewtwo card holder on Reddit. The user shared three images of the head of Mewtwo with a panel on the top that can be removed. The fan says that their son wanted a deck box that could hold his Pokemon cards, and the parent responded by building this. RubDue1609 also notes that they made the opening large enough to hold their son’s Magic: The Gathering Commander deck, as well.

How the Mewtwo Card Holder was Made

The creative parent went into more detail on a page where they also posted the project for fellow fans to print out if they’d like. They note that they used a Mewtwo model created by artist alessandro.zama, cut it down to just the head, and added eyes themselves, as the original model was lacking them. From there, it was just a matter of finding the right scale, adding the cavity for the cards, finalizing the model, and then printing it. RubDue1609 also notes that they have plans to do Pikachu and Eevee next for their nieces, which should be interesting to see.

Meanwhile, Pokemon fans are discussing which Pokemon they’d like to see holding cards like this. Ultra Beast Stakataka was recommended, as well as Voltorb, Mimikyu, Victreebel, and Gimmighoul in Chest form. While simply putting the cards in a slot like the Mewtwo would be sufficient, some fans suggested other methods for storing the cards in Pokemon designs, like Gengar holding the cards in its clenched teeth, or making it so that opening a Gimmighoul box would push the cards up and out to make it easy to grab the deck.

Whether RubDue1609 creates any of the suggested designs remains to be seen, but with any luck, they’ll share their Pikachu and Eevee works next for fans to enjoy.
