A Red Dead Redemption gamer is wondering just how much Jack Marston got to experience in the illustrious 20th Century. It is no secret that the Red Dead Redemption games are packed with interesting characters sporting colorful personalities, and Jack Marston is definitely one such person. Jack appears as a supporting and main character in each Red Dead Redemption title. In RDR 2, Jack is just a four-year-old boy living with his parents John and Abigail, as part of the infamous Van der Linde gang. Unfortunately for Jack, he often gets in trouble, through no fault of his own.

In Red Dead Redemption, Jack is first portrayed as a promising young man, spending his time reading different books and aspiring to become a writer. His initially shy personality coupled with his creativity made him the polar opposite of his father for a time. Unfortunately, after the tragic events that happened at the end of the game, Jack becomes severely depressed as his attitude and behavior start mirroring that of his outlaw father. In 1914, by the end of the events of Red Dead Redemption, Jack Marston was 19 years old.

Red Dead Redemption 3: Jack Marston as a Protagonist Would Be a Chip Off the Old Block

Jack Marston is the perfect fit for the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 3 because he would carry on the legacy of his father and his crew.

A Red Dead Redemption enthusiast and Reddit user going by the name of Rutlemania raises a fascinating premise – If Jack Marston had a long and fruitful life, he could have been able to witness some of the most remarkable events of the renowned 20th Century. As a young man in the American South, Jack would most likely have enlisted in the US Army where he would have been sent off to Europe to fight in the trenches. In 1918 when the war finally ended, Jack would have returned home to experience the Roaring Twenties and a decade later, the Great Depression.

If Jack Marston had survived both the terrible World Wars and the events of the Great Depression, he would have been around to witness the rise of Elvis Presley and the Beatles. The success of these musical legends would usher in a multitude of changes, including the moon landing in 1969. If he lived into his 80s, Jack might even have gotten a chance to see the very first Star Wars film when it debuted in theaters in 1977. Just a few years later in 1979, Jack would have had the chance to listen to the first recording of ACDC’s Highway to Hell. Finally, if Jack were lucky enough to live into his 90s, he would have been around to witness Kurt Cobain’s iconic Smells Like Teen Spirit performance at Seattle’s OK Hotel.

Jack Marston May Have Been Referenced in Grand Theft Auto 5

This theory does not seem so far-fetched since one of the most popular Grand Theft Auto 5 easter eggs involves a book that was apparently written by a Marston. Players can find a blue hardback book titled Red Dead in Franklin’s Vinewood Hills house, written by someone named J. Marston. If that J actually stands for Jack and not John, it would mean that he at least lived long enough to accomplish his dream of becoming a renowned writer.
