Highlights

- Rumors suggest Resident Evil 9 may be revealed soon, with a possible release date in January 2025.
It’s looking as though Capcom will not have a new Resident Evil release in 2024, which will break a five-year streak of releases that started with 2019’s Resident Evil 2 remake. Since the original Resident Evil game released in 1996, new entries in the long-running franchise have come out fast and furious. In fact, since 1996, there have only been five years that haven’t had a Resident Evil release of some kind – 1997, 2008, 2013, 2014, and 2018.
With Resident Evil serving as one of Capcom’s biggest franchises, it makes sense that the company has worked hard to ensure that new games in the series are released on a regular basis. What’s even more impressive is that, despite some lackluster spin-offs, many Resident Evil games have been released to critical acclaim. The Resident Evil franchise’s consistency after all these years is truly impressive, and so some fans may be sad that they may have nothing new to play in 2024.
Resident Evil 9 Leaker Gives Encouraging Update
A reputable leaker retracts their earlier report about Resident Evil 9 being delayed, and provides an exciting update about its reveal.
At the time of this writing, Capcom has not announced a new Resident Evil release for 2024, breaking the streak that started when the Resident Evil 2 remake launched in 2019. The Resident Evil 2 remake was followed by the Resident Evil 3 remake and Resident Evil: Resistance in 2020, Resident Evil Village in 2021, Resident Evil Re:Verse in 2022, and most recently, the Resident Evil 4 remake in 2023. But while it seems like there will be no new Resident Evil game in 2024, the good news is that fans shouldn’t have to wait too long to play the next game in the series.
New Resident Evil Games Have Been Released Every Year for the Past 5 Years
- Resident Evil 2 – 2019
- Resident Evil 3 – 2020
- Resident Evil: Resistance – 2020
- Resident Evil Village – 2021
- Resident Evil Re:Verse – 2022
- Resident Evil 4 – 2023
If recent rumors are to be believed, there’s a chance that Capcom could be revealing Resident Evil 9 at some point in the near future, with the game then launching in January 2025. Other rumors have suggested that Resident Evil 9 may have been internally delayed and could release later than expected, so franchise fans should definitely wait for official word from Capcom before getting too excited.
Besides Resident Evil 9, persistent rumors have suggested that Capcom is gearing up to release a Resident Evil 5 remake as well. Resident Evil 5 is one of the best-selling Resident Evil games, but some fans weren’t thrilled with its heightened action-focus and co-op. A Resident Evil 5 remake could potentially address some of the feedback that fans had about the original game, but the project has yet to be officially announced, so it’s best to keep that in mind.
