RimWorld is an amazing game that can be made even better with mods. There are many mod categories, but Quality of Life mods aim to improve minor aspects of the game without changing gameplay significantly. Quality of Life changes aim to make the game less frustrating and lead to a more enjoyable experience without much effect on gameplay.
Some mods will tweak UI elements, while others will change specific colonist behavior. Gamers can decide which Quality of Life mods they feel fit in their games without affecting their immersion. There are plenty of Quality of Life mods, and these are the best ones most players might need.
1 Pick Up And Haul
Steam Score: 5 Stars with 10,637 Ratings
Colonists in RimWorld are built like tanks and are capable of withstanding bullets but struggle to carry items. The time colonists spend doing meaningless tasks is lost time that they could have spent doing other useful tasks. Pick up and Haul optimizes the hauling mechanic in RimWorld to make it less frustrating.
With Pickup and Haul, colonists can carry items in their inventory, even if there are different items. Colonists can carry more than one weapon and other items if they have space in their inventory.
Colonists will also keep items in their inventory when ordered, making it a useful feature for animal tamers and field doctors.
2 Smart Medicine
Steam Score: 5 Stars with 3,348 Ratings
Combat is an essential part of RimWorld but using good armor will only go so far. Treating injuries swiftly can spell the difference between an injured colonist and a dead one, a few minutes lost from gathering medicine can result in disaster.
Smart Medicine is a simple yet vital mod that will allow doctors to use the medicine in a patient’s inventory rather than fetch it from a distant location. The mod also integrates a new button prompt during surgeries called “Best for surgery.” The new button is displayed in the medical care settings and will find the optimal medicine to use for surgery.
3 Common Sense
Steam Score: 5 Stars with 6,066 Ratings
While colonists are capable of researching advanced topics, building homes, and generating art pieces, they lack Common Sense. This mod adds a ton of optional behaviors for colonists to make them smarter. The optional behaviors add order to any colony and reduce the chaos of managing several colonists.
Optional behaviors include encouraging colonists to prefer outdoor recreation. This option is handy for indoor colonists as it will prevent a cabin fever mental break. Colonists can change to provide recreational drugs to injured pawns to improve their mood.
For gamers who struggle to keep their colony tidy, Common Sense will encourage colonists to clean a room before using it and clean it before cooking and crafting.
4 Stack XXL
Steam Score: 5 Stars with 4,468 Ratings
Storage in RimWorld is not the most engaging activity the game offers, but it is essential to improve the game. Stacking items into larger quantities massively improves warehouses and results in an overall tidier appearance.
Stack XXL allows players to choose their stack size limit for different items. Gamers can use different stack limits for resources and meals. The default setting of the mod increases the stack limit by x10 and will dramatically reduce the required size of storage rooms. Stack sizes can go as high as x100 the default option for players that find storage infuriating in RimWorld.
5 CM Color Coded Mood Bar
Steam Score: 5 Stars with 5,565 Ratings
Making sure colonists are happy and far from a mental breakdown is an ongoing process in RimWorld. Checking in on the mood of colonists is a repetitive task that can be improved by using CM Color Coded Mood Bar. By adding color to the colonist’s mood bar, it becomes much easier to keep an eye on everyone’s mood, and it looks prettier as well.
This mod will actively encourage players to keep their moods high in the colony and see a satisfying green bar across their UI. Players will spot colonists suffering from low moods and have enough time to prevent a mental breakdown. Red colors indicate a low mood while gray is a neutral mood while green is a happy colonist.
6 QualityBuilder
Steam Score: 5 Stars with 7,130 Ratings
Building a base in RimWorld needs to serve the player and the colonists. Players need an organized layout, while colonists need quality items to increase their mood. Higher quality chairs, beds, and other furniture provide a mood increase for colonists.
Players intervene to ensure that their best builder is crafting furniture, but Quality Builder will handle it. Quality Builder has an option for a minimum quality for furniture and will have colonists rebuild it until they have achieved the desired object quality. Other construction colonists will deliver the materials to optimize and speed up the process.
7 Replace Stuff
Steam Score: 5 Stars 10,226 with Ratings
RimWorld colonies last a long time and include lots of resource management. Players will start using wooden blocks to build their base and slowly acquire stone blocks but run into the headache of replacement. Replace Stuff adds a new tool that allows players to replace entire rooms with a different material.
Players can order a section of their base replaced into slate stone, and a colonist will slowly tackle the project and even replace the flooring. When replacing a freezer room, the temperature will remain safe as colonists will not break blocks but replace them. Replacing items, such as workbenches will preserve their bills and beds will still maintain their original owner.
