Providence Trials are one of the new features announced along with the release of the new part of the game. This feature opens up the opportunity for players to take part in unique challenges and gain alternative skills for their characters. This guide will describe how to unlock Providence Trials in Risk of Rain Returns. The great news is that gamers won’t need to spend a lot of time to access this mode.
Risk of Rain Returns: How to Access Providence Trials
As mentioned above, there is nothing complicated to do, but the game does not give fans any hints on how to do it. Fortunately, this guide has all the necessary information. So, to get access to Providence Trials, gamers need to follow just a few steps:
- Start the run and play as usual.
- Reach stage 3 or kill bosses such as Magma Worm, Wandering Vagrant, and Colossus during the run.
- After fulfilling one of these conditions (or two, if the user is lucky), players will unlock new characters, Bandit or Enforcer, depending on the method they choose.
- Complete the run.
Thus, by unlocking a new character, players will also get access to Providence Trials. This can be seen by going to the main menu, where this option will be marked as “New.”
What Are Providence Trials?
Providence Trials are small challenges that not only diversify gameplay but also reward players with new skills for their characters. When gamers interact with the Providence Trials option in the main menu, they will face a grid-like interface, where at first, there will be only a few squares. Each square is a challenge related to a specific character, and all the characters have several such challenges. Each challenge offers a reward for completion. As fans unlock new characters throughout the game, this grid will expand, adding new challenges for each survivor.
The rewards for completing these challenges are alternative skills that players can choose for their character. In each challenge, gamers will need to complete a level while playing a specific character. In addition, instead of using one of the standard skills, users will use an alternative skill, which will be a reward after successful completion of the challenge.
Each of the Providence Trials teaches gamers how to use the skill in practice, fighting against enemies that are on the level. It is worth noting that each character has at least two alternative skills that can be obtained by completing the Providence Trials. For example, for Bandit, gamers can replace the standard Blast skill, which serves as a ranged powerful weapon, with the Whip skill, a melee weapon with more damage and knockback. This way, fans can create their own builds from the skills they unlock.
It is also worth noting that Providence Trials are not the only possible way to unlock alternative skills for characters. Players can also choose another way to get them by simply playing as a character and completing certain tasks. For example, an alternative method of obtaining the Whip skill for Bandit is to kill 3,000 enemies playing this character.
