  • A Roblox fan discovered an Easter egg in the game’s files that brought attention to a historical event – the Australian Emu War.
  • Easter eggs have become a common feature in video games, but they can still be difficult to locate, sometimes remaining hidden for years.
  • While the Emu War Easter egg was unrelated to Roblox, it provided an informative and eccentric surprise for players who were unfamiliar with the historical event.

A curious Roblox fan discovered an unusual Easter egg while going through the game’s files and shared what they found online. The unexpected discovery itself was not related to the game, but it did spread awareness about a historical event.

Video game Easter eggs have been around ever since the medium gained popularity, with the first known example being found in the 1973 title Moonlander. Easter eggs have since become an expected feature in video games, but that does not mean that they have become easier to locate. Some are only uncovered years after a game is released, and it’s safe to assume that even more stay hidden forever. Fortunately for Roblox‘s developers, one of their secrets did not end up in the latter category.

A Roblox player showcases a first glimpse of their upcoming horror game inspired by the famous Paranormal Activity franchise.

Reddit user AtomicAudi was taking a look at Roblox‘s game files when they stumbled upon a log that contained several messages, they said in a recent post on the r/Roblox subreddit. “Hello to the person reading this! I know you are smiling,” the log read. There were also other greetings like “live long and prosper,” which is a popular phrase from the sci-fi television series Star Trek. These would probably never make it onto a list of the best video game Easter eggs of all time, but there was an eye-catching blurb regarding Australia and its native emu species.

“Did you know that Australia went to war with the Emus and lost?” the message read. This was likely a reference to the 1932 Emu War, a conflict Australia started in an effort to cull the emus that were destroying the country’s crops. Also known as the Great Emu War, this event resulted in a loss for the Australians as they were unable to significantly reduce the emu population. While the Easter egg had nothing to do with Roblox, a lot of players who had not heard of the war found it informative. As far as hidden messages go, this is definitely one of the most eccentric, but gamers have gotten used to strange stuff. For example, Bethesda’s Skyrim had so many weird Easter eggs for its players that finding them became a game itself.

Roblox, which is incredibly popular among a lot of young players, has other secrets. One was Roblox‘s clown video Easter egg that players can only access by joining a server in the game that supported the hidden video, having the correct settings turned on, and entering a command.

Most video game secrets tend to be weird and silly to get a laugh out of its players. However, some controversial video game Easter eggs have landed their developers or publishers in trouble. Luckily for Roblox, the Emu War secret log seems to be pretty safe.
