Scream 7 will see Sidney Prescott coming up against Ghostface once again, with filming set to begin in December 2024. Fans are speculating about what sort of Ghostface killer(s) will feature in the upcoming sequel, and there’s a chance they could use technology to assist with the carnage. The most tech-savvy Ghostface in the franchise was Roman Bridger in Scream 3, who used the voice changer to replicate innocent characters’ voices.
This particular use of the voice changer was an unpopular plot point with many fans as it felt unrealistic when Scream 3 was released at the turn of the century. However, technology has evolved since then, with the birth of artificial intelligence, so Scream 7 could revisit this plot point and make it great, 25 years after the original concept was conceived.

Scream 7 will likely get a sequel, and the length of the filming schedule suggests the next sequel could be filmed back to back with it.
Roman Bridger Was Ahead Of His Time With His Tech Savvy Ghostface Ideas in Scream 3 But They Would Work Great In Scream 7
Roman Bridger is arguably the most underrated Ghostface killer in the Scream franchise, and that is largely down to the vitriol some fans spout about Scream 3. Roman was the only Ghostface to act alone, though there are certain theories that suggest he might’ve had an accomplice. Roman was also the franchise mastermind in many ways, as he encouraged Billy Loomis to kill Maureen Prescott all those years ago, which led to the first Woodsboro Ghostface massacre in the 1996 original Scream.
Roman Bridger was also the first Ghostface to fully embrace the future of technology, with his clever twist on the voice changer. The killers in Scream and Scream 2 used the voice changer to disguise their voices, and this was considered groundbreaking back in the 90s, but Roman took it one step further and used it to clone other peoples’ voices. Sure, it probably wasn’t possible to do that back in 2000, but maybe Roman was the Elon Musk of the Scream-verse, and he would’ve gone on to become a tech billionaire if he hadn’t chosen homicide as a career.
Cotton Weary was fooled by Roman’s trick in Scream 3‘s opening kill scene, when he called him using a clone of a woman’s voice to flirt with him as he was stuck in Hollywood traffic. Roman’s Ghostface killer then used it to trick Cotton’s girlfriend, Christine Hamilton, into thinking Cotton was the killer by using his voice to play ‘Stab games’ during the attack. Later in the movie, Roman tracks down his long-lost sister, Sidney Prescott, and taunts her with a call using the voice of their dead mother, Maureen Prescott.
The Scream 3 plot point was not received well by fans, but just like Marty McFly said in Back to the Future:
Guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it.
Nearly 25 years on from Roman Bridger’s killing spree in Scream 3, the next generation of Scream fans probably wouldn’t scoff at the idea of Roman’s voice cloning technique, with the rise of artificial intelligence making it a very realistic possibility. Scream 7 should definitely consider revisiting the Scream 3 voice cloning plot point and make it truly great this time.
A Deep Fake Ghostface In Scream 7 Could Frame An Innocent Character And That Would Be Interesting
Roman Bridger’s use of the voice changer in Scream 3 made characters question who was really behind the mask, but Scream 7 could take it one step further and actually frame an innocent character as Ghostface with the huge advancements in technology since Scream 3 was released back in 2000. Scream 7 could use deep fake technology to convincingly make the characters and the audience believe someone was guilty of carrying out the Ghostface attacks.
Using artificial intelligence, a deep fake can copy a person’s voice quite accurately. The deep fake technology uses an audio recording of the person’s voice to make it say things they haven’t actually said. This is essentially what Roman Bridger did in Scream 3, and it would make sense to revisit the technology in Scream 7 now that it’s been properly developed in the real world, with Ghostface using the voice changer to create doubt about a character’s innocence.
Every Scream movie provides the audience with relevant horror commentary. For instance, the commentary in Scream (2022) focused on deconstructing the different trends in the genre, like elevated horror, and the rise of the requel. But it was essentially about toxic fandom, which manifested itself in the Ghostface killer’s motive, and this wasn’t intrinsically linked to the horror genre.
Scream 7 could follow suit and, in addition to featuring a genuine commentary on where horror is in 2025, the upcoming sequel could also focus on the dangerous rise of artificial intelligence, and how this technology can be used for all sorts of evil purposes, and even create killers. Maybe Ghostface’s motive in Scream 7 is to bring Roman Bridger’s groundbreaking technology full circle, by paying tribute to his efforts in Scream 3.
