Most of the map in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree will be accessible to players early into entering the Realm of Shadow. While there is an ideal path in what order bosses are fought, there is a good bit of freedom in what order players tackle most of the bosses in the DLC.

This isn’t the case with the final section of the DLC, which houses the final boss. Players will be able to get close to this final dungeon after defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion , but will find the path forward Sealed and Obscured by Shadow; here’s how to clear the shadow and progress forward.

How To Clear The Shadow In Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree

While this location can be accessed early on, the shadow is blocking the players from entering the final dungeon of the DLC. To clear the shadow, players will need to find and burn the Sealing Tree, which will require them to beat two of the major bosses throughout the DLC. The main required bosses are Romina, Saint of the Bud, and Messmer the Impaler .

Messmer The Impaler can be found first and is located at the top of the Shadow Keep, which is reached by progressing through to the very top of the Specimen Storehouse. Romina, Saint of the Bud will require players to enter the Shadow Keep, but instead, exit the Specimen Storehouse to the exit bridge of the Shadow Keep heading west. Romina, Saint of the Bud is found by traversing the Scorpion River Catacombs and reaching the westernmost section of this region.

Defeating Romina will give players access to the location of the sealing tree, with Messmer’s Kindling being used when interacting with the Sealing Tree to give the player the option to burn the tree or wait.

Should You Burn The Sealing Tree In Shadow Of The Erdtree

Burning the Sealing Tree will unlock the final dungeon of the game, but also acts as a point of no return for the NPC quest lines found throughout Shadow Of The Erdtree. Players can still travel and explore the region as much as they would like, defeating missed bosses and getting missed items, but the NPC quest lines will all be ended once the Sealing Tree is burned.

After the Sealing Tree is burned, players will still need to travel back to where they fought the Divine Beast Dancing Lion and climb to stairs to enter the previously blocked path. There will be a Site of Grace and the ability to fast travel immediately available for players who just want to see the new area before going back and preparing more. There are multiple quest lines for players to complete in Shadow Of The Erdtree that are listed below for players looking to complete any or all before burning the Sealing Tree.
