Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree introduces eight new weapon types for the Tarnished to explore, including the powerful Great Katana. This new weapon mixes the dexterity-based finesse of the Katana with the brute force of a Greatsword. While there are many incredibly cool new Great Katana’s in SotE, one of the most impressive is Rakshasa’s Great Katana. Players looking for this weapon will also acquire Rakshasa’s Armor Set.

Rakshasa’s Great Katana and Rakshasa’s Armor Set are both new additions through the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. They are somewhat tricky to find, and require the player to reach Shadow Keep in Scadu Altus. This guide will show players how to reach the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum, and get Rakshasa’s Great Katana and Rakshasa’s Armor Set.

How to Reach the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum

Start From the Shadow Keep

The first task players must complete to find Rakshasa’s gear is reaching the Shadow Keep in Scadu Altus. There is a secret passage that players will need to find that leads to a hidden section of the Scadu Altus. Follow these steps to find the secret passage:

  • From the Shadow Keep Main Gate site of grace, you’ll want to follow the main path until you reach a long bridge with several pyre-like fire pits. They look like small boats. You’ll have to defeat the Golden Hippopotamus if you haven’t done so yet.
  • Head to the end of the bridge. Near the end, you’ll find a ladder on the east side of the bridge. It leads to a small path near the water.
  • Follow the path under the waterfall, then down the next ladder. You’ll end up in a small chamber with a painting.
  • There is a clear wall on the right side of the room (if you are facing the painting). Hit the wall to reveal a secret passage.
  • This passage leads to a coffin that will take you to the Castle Watering Hole site of grace in lower Scadu Altus.

Lower Scadu Altus and Recluses’ River

When you reach the Castle Watering Hole, you’ll see a wide plain flooded with water. Make your way south through the dead Furnace Golems, but be careful around the middle of the plain, as one of the golem will come to life. Your first stop will be the Recluses’ River Upstream site of grace, which is just to the left of the waterfall at the end of the plain. Follow the only path available to you to eventually reach the Recluses’ River Downstream site of grace. The path from here will lead to the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum.

Eastern Nameless Mausoleum

From the Recluses’ River Downstream site, look directly over the cliff to the left to find several protruding tombstones. You can use these tombstones to reach the river below. Once you reach the river, do not continue down to the lower section. Instead, follow the river towards the waterfall, then stay right around the bend. Continue riding, and you’ll reach the top of another waterfall. The Eastern Nameless Mausoleum will be to the left of the waterfall. Like SotE’s other Nameless Mausoleums, there will be a single boss fight with no summons allowed.

How to Defeat Rakshasa

SOTE-Rakshasa-Fight

  • Rakshasa can be a tricky fight, but it is manageable if you know what he is weak to. Rakshasa is fairly susceptible to Bleed, so any Blood-Loss inducing weapon will work well. In our fight, we dual-wielded Great Katanas: in the right hand, we used the base Great Katana with Ash of War: Blood Tax , making it a Blood Great Katana +10. In the left hand, we used the Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana +9. This allowed us to cause Blood-Loss extremely fast.
  • Rakshasa seemed to be easily staggered as well. We never broke his poise, but several times a jumping dual-strike would cause him to flinch, leaving him vulnerable to the Blood Tax attack.
  • Rakshasa uses his own Great Katana, which has the Weed Cutter weapon skill. He uses this skill a lot. He would frequently perform this attack three times in a row. It seems to raise his poise, because several times we mistakenly attempted the jump attack after the second Weed Cutter attack instead of the third, and he performed the final attack with ease, the jump attack still doing damage, but failing to stop his attack, which is extremely punishing. If you simply walk backwards as Rakshasa performs his attacks, you will usually stay out of range.
  • Consider using Lord of Blood’s Exultation and the Claw Talisman to enhance this strategy.

Collect the Great Katana and the Armor Set
