  • Some people are being given 14 days of free PlayStation Plus Premium, seemingly at random.
  • These free trials of PS Plus Premium are seemingly being sent to those who have been PS Plus subscribers in the past, and exclusively to those with PS5 consoles.
  • PlayStation may be handing out the codes to entice players to resubscribe to the service.

Fortunate players booting up their PlayStation consoles are receiving 14 days of PlayStation Plus Premium for free, a recent trend suggests. The revamped PlayStation Plus subscription service launched in June 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, providing users with additional features in a three-tiered subscription model: Essential, Extra, and Premium.

New titles are made available to PS Plus subscribers every month, while older games from previous months are withdrawn from the collection. So long as users maintain their PlayStation Plus membership, they’re permitted to keep all games in the collection once downloaded. If their membership lapses, these games will become inaccessible until membership to the service is renewed. Games currently available to Extra and Premium subscribers include Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal.

Best PlayStation Plus Games (July 2024)

PS Plus Extra and Premium have some of the best PlayStation games from across the console brand’s history.

On the PlayStation Plus subreddit, one user shared that after booting up their PlayStation, a message appeared in their notifications tab granting them 14 days of PlayStation Plus Premium for free. When clicking the notification, the user was taken to a separate screen and asked to redeem a unique voucher code, which then activated two weeks of free Premium. When asking fellow Redditors if the same phenomenon occurred elsewhere, mixed responses indicated that these codes are only being given out to a select few. For those lucky enough to have received a limited-time subscription to Premium, they will also have access to PS Plus Premium’s many free trial games.

Sony Handing Out Free 14-Day PS Plus Trials To Select Users

These free trials of PS Plus Premium appear to be handed out to existing PS Plus subscribers and exclusively to those with PS5 consoles, ComicBook.com reports. Lucky players seem to be selected entirely at random, but the consensus is that existing PlayStation Plus subscribers were awarded the free trial, with some Redditors reporting a notification days after their membership had expired. This could suggest that Sony is offering a taste of Premium to whomever has been a faithful member of PS Plus as motivation to re-subscribe.

This isn’t the first time Sony has generously handed out free trials. Under the same Reddit thread, users reported receiving trials as far back as 2022, when the new three-tiered iteration of PlayStation Plus first began. Others have mentioned receiving the aforementioned 14-day trial several weeks before it emerged as a trend online. Either way, Sony has been spoiling subscribers to the Playstation Plus service lately, especially with July’s stacked catalog of free games.
