Nintendo has revealed a brand new Zelda-themed Switch console that will launch later this year. Over the course of the Switch’s lifespan, Nintendo has released multiple redesigns and specially-themed consoles. One of the first Switch redesigns was the Switch Lite, which is a smaller, handheld-only version of the device that comes with a lower price tag.
While the main Switch and the Switch OLED are necessary for fans that want to play games on their TVs, the Switch Lite is still a respectable device for gamers on the go. Various Switch Lite variants have been released since it first launched, with the next one taking inspiration from Nintendo’s timeless Legend of Zelda franchise.

Nintendo Switch Lite Hyrule Edition Console Coming September 26
With a 12-month Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription, Switch owners can play the original Zelda games, the beloved SNES classic A Link to the Past, the Nintendo 64 duology, and Link’s various handheld adventures. Of course, owning a Switch Lite will also give players the opportunity to buy modern Zelda games as well, including the critically-acclaimed open world adventures Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Overall, the Nintendo Direct was an exciting one for fans of The Legend of Zelda franchise. Besides the Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, Nintendo also announced a brand-new main series Zelda game releasing this year. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is launching on September 26, the same day as the Hyrule Edition Switch Lite console. The new game features a big twist, trading out Link as the main playable character for Princess Zelda, giving the latter her first starring role. Princess Zelda comes equipped with a new weapon called the Tri-Rod that allows her to create “echoes” of objects and creatures she encounters on her adventure, which should lead to a fresh new way to experience Zelda.
