Tom Holland is not good at keeping secrets when it comes to his Spider-Man projects. He even gained a reputation for sharing too much that it became a running gag in the Marvel circle, but Holland recently shared a behind-the-scene photo that got his fans’ tongues wagging.
Holland is set to return to Spider-Man 4, following the success of his three standalone Spider-Man films – Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Holland made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. He was also part of several MCU films, including Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Holland recently shared a sneak peek of his recent project, which many speculated was for Spider-Man due to his history of teasing major news about his Marvel role even before Marvel Studios made official announcements.
Holland took to Instagram a week ago and shared a mirror selfie. “Secret shoot day,” he wrote in the caption. The post received tons of comments from fans, who joked that he was finally able to keep a secret. However, many considered it a sign that he was hinting at Spider-Man 4. “I feel like Tom thinks he’s actually keeping a secret but at the same time is saying Spider-Man 4,” one follower commented. Another user was very sure, writing, “Spider-Man 4 obviously.” However, some also argued it could be for another movie since Holland is involved in several projects besides the MCU.
Earlier in September, Holland was spotted after attending a meeting in Los Angeles. He was sporting the same hair, which was very different from his usual hairstyle in Spider-Man. There are rumors that Sony’s Tom Rothman and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige could not agree on how to proceed with Spider-Man 4. The latter reportedly wants to scale back the Multiverse elements, but the former prefers to continue it and bring the former Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire following the success of No Way Home, where the three Spider-Man stars united on the big screen for the first time, ComicBookMovie.com reported.
Holland’s secret shoot may or may not be related to Spider-Man. After all, he is among the most sought-after actors today, having appeared in several other movies like The Devil All the Time (2020), Onward (2020), Cherry (2021), Chaos Walking (2021) and Uncharted (2022). But it’s understandable for fans to always associate his teasers with his Marvel role because Spider-Man is his biggest break and Holland has a history of spoiling Marvel secrets. For instance, he announced that Spider-Man would be a trilogy by talking about Spider-Man 3 before Marvel officially announced it. One of the major spoilers he did was announcing that he’s alive in a theater packed with Marvel fans who were excited about watching Avengers: Infinity War. His statement spoiled the major plot involving Thanos snapping his fingers and killing half of the universe, including the Avengers.
But then again, Holland has many projects, and there is no concrete development for Spider-Man 4 for the time being, so it could be for another project. The secret shoot could be for a commercial or advertisement. It’s also possible that he’s making a cameo in another Marvel project or a different franchise. Whatever it is, one thing is confirmed – Holland is back! In June 2023, he announced after filming the thriller series “The Crowded Room” that he would take a year off from acting because the project left him with certain emotions he had never experienced before.
Spider-Man movies are available to stream on Disney Plus.
