In Star Wars Outlaws, Kay Vess relies on her trusty speeder to get around the game’s open-world areas. As you make your way through the game, there are several speeder upgrades that will eventually become available. These upgrades can provide entirely new mechanics, like the Speed Boost and Jump, as well as incremental improvements to the speeder’s individual systems. This guide will reveal the complete list of speeder upgrades in Star Wars Outlaws, and show players where to go to equip them.
How to Upgrade Kay’s Speeder in Star Wars Outlaws
There are two major categories of speeder upgrades in Star Wars Outlaws. The first category is based around special upgrades to the speeder’s mechanics. These upgrades mostly occur during important story beats, and will be unlocked automatically when Kay reaches or completes the required mission.
The second category is the basic mechanical upgrades, which affect the individual speeder systems, such as the engine and chassis. These upgrades are player-initiated, and require Kay to collect specific items and/or parts. Each of the speeder’s upgradable systems will have multiple tiers, which gradually require increasingly rare parts to unlock.
Special Upgrades:
Kay can unlock the following special speeder upgrades:
- Speed Boost: The Diffuse-Ion Accelerator allows for a quick burst of speed.
- Jump Boost: The Repulsion Blast Coil enables the Boost Jump ability.
- Hydrorepulsor: The Speeder Surface Repulsor allows the speeder to drive over deep water.
Basic Upgrades:
There are four categories of basic upgrades Kay can make to her speeder:
- Engine
- Handling
- Armor
- Landing Repulsor
Where to Upgrade Kay’s Speeder in Star Wars Outlaws:
There are several speeder mechanics spread out around the game’s world. There will be at least one mechanic in each of the regions that allow speeder travel. Kijimi is the only location that does not. You will find the mechanics marked on the map with a speeder and wrench symbol.
Selo Rovik, The Mechanic expert, is also available as a speeder mechanic after you complete the associated questline on Toshara.
How to Unlock Speed Boost for Kay’s Speeder
Star Wars Outlaws’Speed Boost upgrade is part of Selo Rovik’s suite of abilities. These are made available after completing “The Mechanic” Expert quest. Like all other Experts, Selo has one ability automatically unlocked when you complete their quest. Rovik’s first ability is the Speed Boost.
“The Mechanic” becomes available after completing the “New Tricks” mission early in the Toshara section of SWO. Along with the Slicer, The Mechanic will be the first Expert Kay can unlock.
Speed Boost Upgrades:
- Once Kay unlocks the Speed Boost, she can upgrade the ability twice using the speeder mechanic. The first upgrade increases the top speed of the boost, and the second upgrade increases top speed and reduces cooldown.

How to Unlock Jump for Kay’s Speeder
Jump Boost is the second ability Kay can unlock from The Mechanic. Unlike the Speed Boost ability, which automatically unlocks, Jump Boost requires Kay to complete a task in order to unlock the ability. Once unlocked, Kay will be able to hold down A/X to perform a jump off the flat ground with the speeder.

- To complete this task, look for the large ramps found around Toshara’s open-world section. Make sure Kay has a clear landing area, and she should complete this task with relative ease.
Jump Boost Upgrades:
- Once Kay unlocks the Jump Boost ability, it can be upgraded once at a speeder mechanic. This upgrade will increase the height of the jump.

How to Unlock the Hydrorepulsor for Kay’s Speeder
The Hydrorepulsor allows Kay to drive over deep water, and is really only used for the deep rivers and lakes of Akiva. To unlock this ability, you’ll need to follow Akiva’s main questline “The Droidsmith” until Gedeek mentions that you’ll need to be able to drive over water to continue. At that point, you’ll reveal the intel needed to begin ‘The Scavenger,’ Temmin Wexely’s Expert questline. Like Speed Boost, the Hydrorepulsor is the first ability in Wexely’s suite, so it will be unlocked automatically upon completion of his quest.
- The Hydrorepulsor has no upgrades.
