How Long Do Taro Tubers Grow?
Stardew Valley‘s 1.5 update included a new region: Ginger Island. This introduced a new dungeon, new characters, and new crops/crafting recipes. Taro Tubers are a seed introduced in 1.5, and planting them would result in Taro Roots. They take some time to grow, but they’re worth getting if you have fishponds and if you’re taking special orders from the board in town. The downside to Taro Tubers is they can’t be bought from Pierre’s General Store or Joja Mart. In Stardew Valley 1.5+, there are a few methods to go about obtaining Taro Tubers.

Taro Tuber Locations (1.6)
Taro Tubers can only be found on Ginger Island, which you won’t unlock until you’ve completed the Community Center/Joja Mart. Taro Tubers can be farmed from:
- Tiger Slimes in the Volcano or the Farm area.
- Breaking open Golden Coconuts.
- Cutting weeds in the Jungle.
- Digging up artifact spots or panning around Ginger Island.
- Occasionally given by Lionfish Ponds (population of 4).
- Sold by Island Trader (unlocks with 10 Golden Walnuts) for two Bone Fragments.

Where Should You Plant Them?
Taro Tubers are a summer crop, so if you’re growing them on your farm, you can only do so during Summer. It’s recommended that you unlock the farm on Ginger Island (20 Golden Walnuts) so you can start planting crops there.
Taro Roots take 10 days to fully grow, but its process can be sped up if its irrigated and/or if you sprinkle Speed-Gro fertilizer. You don’t need the scythe to collect the Taro Roots, so you don’t have to worry about them dropping into the river near the Ginger Island farmhouse.
Where to Use Taro Roots
Fishponds, Cooking, and More
Taro Roots are a Liked gift for everyone except Abigail, Haley, Jas, Sam, and Vincent. However, you’re better off saving your Taro Roots for other tasks.
- Four Taro Roots are required to make Poi, a recipe you receive in the mail from Leo at 3+ hearts.
- If you set up a Blue Discus fishpond, then they may ask you for 3 Taro roots (population: 3) and 10 Taro Roots (population: 5).
- Caroline may ask you to ship 100 Taro Roots by the end of the season (Island Ingredients). Completing this special order unlocks the crafting recipes for Solar Panels.
- Can be sewn to make a Shirt and Belt.
You can also trade Taro Roots with the Island Trader to get items and exclusive accessories.
