Stardew Valley: How to Increase Your Horse’s Speed

For those who wish to enjoy the true essence of farm life, the possibilities are endless in Stardew Valley – you can plant a variety of crops and raise all kinds of farm animals, like chickens, cows, and even horses. Interestingly, you can mount the horse and ride it all around the valley, making it a much more convenient way to explore the world around you.

Riding a horse in Stardew Valley is comparatively faster than walking on foot, which means you can cover more ground in a shorter amount of time. In fact, with the right approach, you can even increase your horse’s speed and efficiency.

How To Give Your Horse A Speed Boost in Stardew Valley

While there’s no direct way to permanently increase your horse’s base speed in Stardew Valley, you can use a few methods to temporarily boost its speed.

Feed Your Horse Carrots

Feeding your horse one carrot per day grants a +0.4 speed bonus for the entire day. You can feed it at any time of the day, but munching on a carrot first thing in the morning is the best way to maximize your horse’s speed for the rest of the day.

You can grow Carrots using Carrot Seeds during the Spring in Stardew Valley. It only takes three days for Carrots to mature and be ready for harvest. Carrot Seeds can be obtained by digging speed spots, opening mystery boxes, or breaking crates and barrels in the mines between Winter 21 and Spring 23.

Introduced in Stardew Valley 1.6, power books can give farmers special abilities and knowledge. Reading one of these books, called Horse: The Book, can permanently increase your horse’s speed by +0.5. You can purchase Horse: The Book from the Bookseller for 25,000 gold.

Drink Coffee

Since your own speed stacks with the horse’s, you can consume foods and drinks, like Coffee, to temporarily boost your speed. Drinking a Coffee or Triple Shot Espresso provides a temporary +1 speed boost to both you and your horse. You can buy Coffee from Gus at the Saloon or make it yourself by brewing five Coffee Beans in a Keg.

Unlike carrots, which provide a day-long boost, the speed boost from drinking coffee is temporary. Make sure to keep some coffee in your bag for on-the-go speed boosts for your horse.

Eat Speed-Boosting Foods

In addition to coffee, some food items can also provide a quick Speed buff when consumed. The buffs from the coffee and food stack up, which means you can get an even faster horse by combining these methods.

You can cook and eat the following meals to increase your horse’s speed:

If you eat two speed-boosting meals together, their buffs will not stack up. Instead, the second dish will replace the effects of the first one you ate.

Activate The Statue Of Blessings

Lastly, activating the Statue Of Blessings grants the farmer a unique blessing every day. This could include the Blessing Of Speed, which increases your speed by+0.5 for the whole day.

You can craft the Statue Of Blessings after claiming Farming Mastery. The materials required to craft this statue are 999 Sap, 999 Fiber, 999 Stone, and 333 Moss.
