Highlights

  • Text size in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is too small, making it difficult to read for many players, especially those with glasses or visual impairments.
  • The game currently only allows players to increase the size of subtitles, but other text does not have the same customization options.
  • Rocksteady Studios should consider adding a text size increase option in a future update to make the game more accessible for everyone.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has finally launched, and while it has proven controversial with Batman: Arkham fans, there is still plenty of fun to be had with the title. The characters all shine, the gameplay feels engaging, and the broad strokes of the story are rather interesting. Even though it is bogged down by various live-service features and the endgame is a bit repetitive, it is still great to see some iconic DC supervillains lead their own adventure. However, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League may not be accessible to everyone.

These days, developers are trying their best to make games more accessible since no one should be left out of the fun. Rocksteady is no different, as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has dozens of options that help players cater the game to them. However, the studio has also left out one feature that could make things even more accessible: a simple text size increase option.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Could Really Use a Text Size Setting

Suicide Squad’s Text is Just Too Small

Throughout gamers’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League playthroughs, they will be reading a lot of text boxes. The game usually has something to teach players around every single corner, with each mission often leading to a new mechanic or unlock. This helps give players information and context about what exactly they are doing while also teaching them something new. However, the text is also extremely small and hard to read for many.

Depending upon the player’s screen size, certain text can almost be impossible to read. Many players have found it extremely hard to see unless they are sitting awfully close to their TVs. If a player has glasses, then it can be even harder. And while some games give players the option to increase the size of the text, Suicide Squad does not seem to have that option.

As of now, the only text that players can increase the size of is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League‘s subtitles, which also appear rather small at first. But players are given the ability to fully customize them to their liking. Not only can they increase the text size, but they can also change the color, background opacity, and background color. This all helps make the subtitles far easier to read, yet Rocksteady chose not to give other text those same options for some reason.

Rocksteady Can Fix KTJL’s Text Issue in a Future Update

The only way that players can make the text more readable is if they turn on text-to-speech. That feature will read out the text that appears on-screen, and players are able to customize it even further if they wish. They can change the volume, voice, and speed to fit what they need. However, many players do not want to go down that route. Instead, they should be able to simply increase the text size, so hopefully, Rocksteady considers adding something like that in a future Suicide Squad update.

As games become more accessible, it seems strange that Rocksteady left the text so small and limited the ability to increase the size to only subtitles. Because of that limitation, it has created a bit of a barrier for people who wear glasses and the visually impaired. But that should be something that the studio rectifies with a future update. Suicide Squad is going to have four seasons of post-launch content with multiple updates likely in-between, and one of those updates could easily toss in a feature like this. Giving players the option to increase the size of text would go a long way to making this DC adventure more accessible to anyone who wants to jump in.
