  • 2023 has already seen major game releases, but fans are eagerly awaiting the official reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6, set for early December.
  • The Game Awards, happening on December 7, is the perfect platform for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal.
  • While Rockstar typically unveils games on Twitter, Grand Theft Auto 6 is bigger and more deserving of a grand reveal, so it could potentially break the mold.

2023 has already been one of the biggest and best years for video game releases, with titles like Resident Evil 4 Remake, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Starfield, Alan Wake 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3 all landing this year. But while there are more great games to play than ever before, some fans want even more, and they might finally get it, with Grand Theft Auto 6 apparently set to finally get its official reveal very soon.

It’s been a decade since Grand Theft Auto 5 first released, and it’s been years since fans started to speculate on the whereabouts of a potential Grand Theft Auto 6. While these rumors have become increasingly prevalent in the last few years things really hit a fever-pitch last September, when an early build of the game was leaked online along with a horde of information. Since then, a new rumor has popped up every other week claiming that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be announced imminently. But while those rumors have never really earned a response from Rockstar, the most recent one has, with Rockstar using it to officially confirm that GTA 6 is getting its first trailer in December, which gives the footage an obvious, but perfect, potential release date: The Game Awards.

Grand Theft Auto 6’s Trailer Has a Perfect Potential Release Date

The Game Awards Is the Best Place for a Grand Theft Auto 6 Reveal

In a recent post by Rockstar Games’ official Twitter, the developer/publisher talks about its excitement for the studio’s upcoming 25th anniversary, which lands in December. After thanking fans for their continued support, Rockstar ends its thread with an official confirmation that Grand Theft Auto 6 will receive its first trailer in “early December.” When it comes to big game reveals at the start of December, that usually only means one thing: The Game Awards.

This year marks The Game Awards’ 10th anniversary, and there’s no better pull for it than Grand Theft Auto 6. Over the last 10 years, Geoff Keighley and all those involved have continued to expand and improve upon The Game Awards, to the point where it’s now genuinely one of the biggest nights out of the entire year for the gaming industry. The Game Awards just continues to get better and better every year, and the last show definitely proved that it was on the right track, striking an excellent balance between celebrity endorsements and cameos and giving the games industry its time to shine on its own.

If Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be revealed in early December, then the most obvious place for it is The Game Awards, taking place on December 7. And while it’s the most obvious option, it’s also the one that makes the most sense and is probably for the best. The Game Awards has become an unmissable night for anyone even remotely interested in the gaming industry, and it would be a win-win for all parties involved. Keighley would get to show off GTA 6 for the very first time, and Rockstar would have millions of eyes on its game instantly, with last year’s Game Awards achieving over 100 million concurrent viewers.

On the other hand, Rockstar does have a habit of just announcing and unveiling its games on Twitter. Where most huge franchises like to tease their next entries via E3, Summer Games Fest, or the Game Awards, Rockstar tends to just drop a trailer onto the internet rather unceremoniously. But Grand Theft Auto 6 is bigger than any past Rockstar game, and if Rockstar was going to break the mold and roll out the red carpet with any title, it would be this one.
