Why The Finals’ Terminal Attack 5v5 Game Mode May Not Last

The Finals’ Terminal Attack 5v5 game mode’s strict new set of rules may ultimately increase the skill floor and ceiling for better or for worse.

Updated June 19, 2024, by Amjad A. Asma: The list of the best gadgets for Medium builds in The Finals Season 3 has undergone changes. For starters, the Guardian Turret specialization balance change has nerfed it to an extent. Further, the Dual Blades that were added to the class’ roster are quite shoddy at the moment. When paired with overall buffs to Light and Mediums, the Medium build’s offensive power is a bit lacking at the moment. Players do have the chance to bridge the gap, but things may get a bit more challenging than they seem.

Since Terminal Attack is now the ranked mode, the Defibrillator doesn’t have the demand it used to. It’s stil crucial in all the other modes, but those who main ranked play will have to look elsewhere. Considering that the new map, Kyoto 1568, is also in play, players are advised to try out new builds and strategies in private matches in The Finals Season 3 before jumping into ranked play.

7 Pyro Grenade

A Multi-Class Grenade That Can Cause A Great Amount Of Damage Over Time

Best Medium Gadgets in The Finals: Pyro Grenade

The Pyro Grenade causes damage at a rate of 20 HP for 12 seconds. Like the Gas Grenade, it comes with only one stack. Although one of the best Medium gadgets in The Finals Season 3, the time it takes to recharge is a disappointing factor.

The Pyro Grenade can be countered with a Smoke Grenade. This is great because there aren’t many that use the latter in the current meta since there are better options available. Furthermore, Pyro Grenades easily counter Gas variants. So, if players see one being used to keep them away, they can easily launch this gadget and have the gas cloud go up in flames. With luck, enemies may get caught up in the flames as well. Considering that the Gas Grenades are being used now more than ever due to their radius-increase buff, Pyros are good but not the best choice at the moment.

6 Frag Grenade

This Multi-Class Gadget Instantly Causes A Great Deal Of Damage

Best Medium Gadgets in The Finals: Frag Grenade

A classic gadget that is great for beginners, the Frag Grenade is an ideal opening salvo in The Finals Season 3. It causes 149 damage right out the gate and comes in a stack of two with a cooldown of 20 seconds. While it doesn’t cause structural damage like the Explosive Mine and C4, it can be thrown farther than they can. This not only adds to its range but also makes it useful in more varied situations.

The medium weapons in The Finals are a well-rounded bunch that should suit many player’s needs. Here’s how they stack up.

One of the best Medium gadgets in The Finals Season 3, the Frag Grenade can also be used to take out other targets like the Guardian Turret or counter Mines, but it will not work against the APS Turret. Nevertheless, it is still a great pick for all classes. A good point in its favor is that players get two Frag Grenades rather than one in the case of Gas and Pyro.

5 Glitch Trap

Medium-Exclusive Glitch Trap To Short-Out Enemies

Best Medium Gadgets in The Finals Season 3 - Glitch Trap

The Glitch Trap has received a rework, making it one of the best Medium gadgets in The Finals Season 3. Earlier, it worked on a proximity-detonation system. Now, it has a line-of-sight mechanism and will wreck enemies’ gadget and specialization usage, as well as HUD, if it can “see” them. Moreover, players will be able to distinguish who’s glitched by a colored tether that attaches the enemies to the trap. The only way to be free of it is to either break the line of sight, get out of the fairly decent range, or destroy it outright.

The Glitch Trap’s rework has made it an important Medium gadget in The Finals Season 3, especially for bridging the offensive gap created by the Guardian Turret’s nerf. Since it also counters all specialization use as well, the Heavy class’ new Winch Claw will be disabled for a few moments. This will give Mediums an opportunity to take them down, which is quite important as the Winch Claw is quite meta at the moment.

4 Gas Grenade

A Multi-Class Grenade That Is Great For Creating Choke Points

Best Light Gadgets in The Finals: Gas Grenade

The Gas Grenade is one of the best gadgets in The Finals Season 3. The Toxic Gas it releases takes effect 0.5s later, but now the damage quickly ramps up from 30 HP/s to 60 HP/s in two seconds. The cooldown is not as high as other gadgets, and the gas remains for a decent chunk of time. Although this item does come with only one stack, it can have a great effect in a fight.

The Finals: Best Heavy Build

Smash the competition in The Finals with these three Heavy builds that take advantage of all the best things the class has to offer.

While the Gas Grenade does not obscure as much of the screen as the Smoke Grenade does, it does help make vision unclear. When coupled with rapid damage and the fact that players will have to wait it out or risk getting the Pyro Grenade to blow them up while they’re in it, it’s an easy pick. Since it can also be used by the Light and Heavy builds, teammates can coordinate among themselves for who will use it. The Gas Grenades are seeing more and more use in the meta, especially the 5v5 Power Shift mode in The Finals Season 3. Since most players camp out on the platform there, shielded with Gloo Walls and Barricades, the Toxic Gas is a greater damage-causing deterrent than something like Pyro Grenades.

3 APS Turret

A Medium Build-Exclusive Gadget That Disables Projectiles Thrown In Its Radius

Best Medium Gadgets in The Finals: APS Turret

The APS Turret has proven itself to be one of the best Medium gadgets in The Finals Season 3, especially in teams that make use of Guardian Turrets. Essentially, it disables projectiles thrown in its direction. Thus, it ensures that Frag and Glitch Grenades don’t destroy the Guardian Turret or the Cashout Station that it is protecting.

While extremely beneficial when placed in a strategic spot, the APS Turret does come with a couple of negatives. Firstly, its control radius is not very big. Secondly, players can take it out from afar, especially if their Light build in The Finals Season 3 has a sniper rifle and the new Thermal Bore gadget. Nevertheless, it is a very important Medium gadget, especially when trying to hold down a spot. Its protective prowess on the hovering platform in the 5v5 Power Shift mode, whether paired with Guardian Turrets or not, is pretty decent. Considering many enemies resort to throwables from a decent decent, the APS Turret can come in very handy.

2 Jump Pad

A Medium Build-Exclusive Gadget That Is Handy For Easy And Quick Traversal

Best Medium Gadgets in The Finals: Jump Pad

The Jump Pad is one of the most widely-used movement aids in The Finals Season 3, and it’s almost always needed on maps like Seoul and Skyway Stadium; the new Kyoto 1568 map also has a lot of steep terrain that necessitates using a Jump Pad. This gadget comes with one stack, and the Season 2 changes increased the cooldown from 25s to 30s. A great positive it offers is that it can be placed on straight and sloped walls as well, allowing for sideways and further distance propulsion. While it is no match for the agility present in the Light builds in The Finals Season 3, it is a must-have nonetheless.

The Finals: Every Melee Weapon, Ranked

Of the four melee weapons in The Finals, which among them proves to be the best?

Although it is easily one of the best Medium gadgets in The Finals Season 3, its usage can be a bit finicky. It is important that players ensure that they are sprinting when they step on it; this will ensure they travel quicker and farther. Otherwise, the jump will be higher but slower, leaving them vulnerable in the air. Meanwhile, the Zipline is also a good movement aid and provides access to longer distances, but it offers a slow speed of traversal. As such, the Jump Pad is better for quick relocation.

1 Defibrillator

A Medium Build-Exclusive Item That Can Revive Fallen Teammates

Best Medium Gadgets in The Finals: Defibrillator

The Defibrillator is among the must-have Medium gadgets in The Finals Season 3. Although it’s not viable in Terminal Attack, its importance in other modes cannot be overstated. Moreover, Inviting and playing with friends improves communication and can lead to fewer deaths. When teammates do die, this gadget can instantly revive them. Since it can immediately bring them back into a fight, it has a significant impact in the arena, no matter the game mode or situation. Although it comes with a cooldown of 45 seconds, its importance cannot be ignored. The Finals Season 2 brought in some balance changes for the Defibrillator, where teammates now take three seconds to complete the revive animation. Fortunately, they get revived with 50% health now, 10% more than earlier.

Pairing this with the Healing Beam specialization is one of the most fundamental loadouts that Medium build players can have. Having an extra pair of hands in a fight and regenerating HP at a decent rate can be the difference between winning and losing. Even if players opt for the Guardian Turret instead of the Healing Beam, the Defibrillator is one of the best Medium gadgets in The Finals Season 3, and they should definitely have it in their inventory. And if in a pinch, they can use it to cause 50 HP damage as well.
