This article has MAJOR SPOILERS for The Last of Us franchise
A perceptive Last of Us Part 2 player has found a cool and unique detail that has been hidden within the game’s final song, which includes a chord from the soundtrack that doesn’t fully play out to signify Ellie’s trauma. Since Naughty Dog’s hit debut title in 2013, The Last of Us franchise has gone from strength to strength. Exploring dark themes of death and vengeance, the hard-hitting sequel in the series, The Last of Us Part 2, has been praised for its gripping emotional depth, breathtaking visuals, and daring storytelling choices.
The narrative of The Last of Us Part 2 focuses on Ellie’s revenge against a group called the W.L.F., but more specifically Abby Anderson, who took away her beloved father figure, Joel Miller. Even though a third installment in The Last of Us series has, as yet, not been disclosed by the studio, The Last of Us Part 2‘s ending left the game open enough to allow Ellie to find some sort of redemption or closure.
On Reddit, a Last of Us Part 2 aficionado believes that they have found a hidden detail within composer Gustavo Santaolalla’s final song in the game where a chord has been purposefully left unfinished to mirror Ellie’s traumatic state. User squishmymallows posted that while they were listening to Santaolalla’s Beyond Desolation, which plays out as Ellie leaves the guitar behind and walks off into the distance, a chord sounded a little off. After listening to the song further, squishmymallows thinks that the last chord was left incomplete to signify Ellie’s unresolved survivor’s guilt, providing a unique hidden detail that many players may have missed.
The Last of Us Part 2’s Final Song Could Include Hidden Ellie Reference
In The Last of Us Part 2, Ellie and Abby share similar personalities. However, Ellie becomes completely obsessed with killing Abby to the point that she loses Jesse and almost loses Tommy and Dina as well. Even having a good life with Dina didn’t stop Ellie’s thirst for revenge, where she would break down frequently through horrific memories of how Joel died. For Naughty Dog to include an intentionally incomplete chord in the game’s ending song makes perfect sense to how Ellie had been feeling after her shocking final encounter with Abby.
The Last of Us Part 2 forces its players to confront difficult situations in a bid to understand the motivations of all its characters, which makes the game an utterly captivating and emotional playthrough. Finding interesting details throughout the game is a great way for fans to discover more of The Last of Us 2′s hidden secrets as they wait to hear more about whether Naughty Dog will continue with the franchise.
