The world is filled with multitaskers today, with many people idly browsing the Internet or absorbing other forms of media while at their jobs. The affordability of HD monitors has made it even easier for PC users as they set up dual monitors to help them keep tabs on their social media, YouTube, Twitch, and other websites while chipping away at their daily work. Of course, this can be a bit of a mess for those in an office, or anyone that is surrounded by prying eyes. Even if a user has faith in their ability to multitask, their boss or co-workers might not see it the same way. This can make it difficult to explain certain things if people happen to walk by.

Those who browse the web a lot have likely been in a scenario where they hastily closed tabs, paused videos, or tried to quickly move something off the screen before someone else saw what they were looking at. Whether it’s pausing a popular streamer they’re not supposed to be watching while at work, or getting rid of some rather questionable content, there’s nothing quite like the panic of looking productive and “normal” when someone else sees our monitors.

Opera Software, the developers of web browser Opera GX, understand this feeling all too well and have set out to provide their own unique solution to the problem. The Panic Button promises to put an end to all those awkward conversations stemming from unwanted screentime visitors.

A Handy Way To Quickly Hide Browsers & Videos

According to a recent study conducted by Opera GX, 36% of users admitted that they accessed something they shouldn’t be looking at during their working hours. This included a myriad of different sites and media types, with things like social media, gaming websites, and shopping occupying a majority of the poll. The study showed that many people are multitasking on the job, a practice that is likely frowned upon by many employers, making the need to hide their website access all the more important.

Opera Product Director Maciej Kocemba understood the need for a way to quickly and effectively shift focus on their web browser, leading to the creation of the Panic Button, an integrated Opera GX tool that will let users quickly hide their browsers, games, and any videos.

Supremely Easy To Use

The best part of the Opera GX Panic Button is that it’s incredibly easy to use. By default, the Panic Button is mapped to the F12 button on the user’s keyboard. Pressing it will cause the browser to enter “Panic Mode,” which will pause all video playback, quiet all tabs, and even open an array of “safe” and mundane tabs as a replacement. Some of the “safe” options include websites like YouTube, Wikipedia, and Twitch. That said, users are also free to add their own websites to the mix, creating a custom-tailored Panic Mode that will replace whatever they’re looking at with something that appears much more productive. Once the prying eyes are gone, users can simply hit F12 again to resume their browsing.

Those who want to check out the Panic Button for themselves will need to activate the “Early Bird” option that’s found in Opera GX’s settings. The mode is currently part of the latest update.

Part Of A Growing Number Of In-Browser Features

Opera GX, a web browser designed for gamers, has seen quite a few included upgrades, options, and extensions over the years. Those looking for a truly customizable browser will enjoy Opera GX’s impressive suite of interface options and tools. Custom content reigns supreme, with an array of add-on sounds, backgrounds, themes, musical elements, and more, that users can freely switch and swap between for the ultimate visual experience.

Those looking to get a better grip on performance will find a number of tools in Opera GX that can be used to help create a smoother browsing experience overall. Users can change and apply a variety of limiters, ensuring that the browser does not take more resources than needed. By controlling the RAM, CPU, and even Network limiters, players can be sure they’re getting the most of out their system even when browsing with many tabs open. The Panic Button is just another great tool in the growing arsenal presented to Opera GX users.
