Highlights

  • Fans eagerly anticipate Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release, despite no concrete signs of it yet.
  • Hollow Knight: Silksong could draw on elements of the last game for new bosses, including the ominous Void Entity from the first game.
  • The Void Entity’s sense of menace and place in the lore would make it a great Silksong boss.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is still at the top of many fans’ wishlists, even though no concrete signs of release have appeared yet. A number of hints that it could come soon, including a Steam backend update and the appearance of its Microsoft Store page, have popped up in 2024, but nothing has materialized. Frustration with Team Cherry’s lack of communication over the past few years has been mounting, but faith in Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s final quality remains high in spite of that. After how well the first Hollow Knight went, Silksong has earned itself a lot of rope.

The promised sequel is set to keep Hollow Knight‘s many strengths alive, including precise platforming, exhilarating combat, and an interesting and beautiful world to explore. Players will take control of Hornet, princess-protector of Hallownest and the first game’s rival, as she journeys deep into Silksong‘s new Kingdom of Pharloom. What she’ll find is anyone’s guess right now, but knowing Hollow Knight‘s dark fantasy world, it won’t be pretty. In fact, Silksong could one up its predecessor in this respect, juxtaposing its more graceful themes of silk and song with horrors that not even Hollow Knight let players fight.

If Hollow Knight: Silksong will have multi-phase bosses, there will be questions regarding the benefits and disadvantages it could bring to the game.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Could Reach A New Tier Of Bosses

An effort to scale up Hollow Knight: Silksong’s boss battles is already visible in its trailer thanks to the presence of at least one screen-filling foe, but there’s another direction they could take than physical size. Besides the Radiance and Nightmare King Grimm, Hollow Knight keeps players away from the strongest beings of its world. These either appeared in enigmatic ways, were implied to exist in some form, or showed up dead with varying amounts of explanation. One of the more enigmatic ones had a better excuse for not being in a fight than the rest, however.

Hollow Knight’s Void Entity Explained

The Void Entity is a being of pure Void manifested in Hollow Knight’s true ending and Godmaster endings. Its vanilla appearance is referred to by a Godhome idol as “Void Given Form,” while its distinctly more monstrous DLC appearance is dubbed “Void Given Focus.” A mysterious, seemingly dead creature in the Abyss also references a “Lord of Shades,” which fits thanks to the army of Shades that precede its arrival. Further information on this being is scarce, though its invasion of reality in the default Godmaster ending suggests that it’s too powerful and dangerous to be controlled by mortal beings.

How Hollow Knight: Silksong Could Incorporate The Void Entity

Hollow Knight‘s Void Entity being one of its most ominous figures isn’t in question, but its role in Hollow Knight: Silksong is. The Void Entity played its part in defeating Hollow Knight’s Radiance, and was tied to the Void below Hallownest used to create the playable Knight. It could be safely ignored in Silksong, but would also make for a cool secret boss that calls back to the original Hollow Knight. A Void DLC area was considered for the first game, so it would make sense for the sequel to make it happen.

The Void Entity Is An Obvious Bonus Boss Candidate

Most likely, this fight would be optional and hidden at the lowest point of the map. It could be part of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s answer to Deepnest, but it could also be set even deeper in an area undisturbed before Hornet’s arrival. There, Hornet could face the Void Given Form in a fight calling back to the Broken Vessel and Hollow Knight battles of the original game. An appropriately nostalgic Void-based power could be the reward, but players could return on Silk Soul Mode to test their mettle against a new phase featuring the Void Given Focus. This could become one of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s standout bosses if handled right, so hopefully, Team Cherry is willing to indulge in some fanservice and spectacle.
